Tuesday 14th December we were sightseeing and exploring in Santa Cruz de Tenerife. No visit to the City is complete without a visit to this iconic building which is a rather prominent feature along the waterfront.

As we approached the building it did look rather impressive. The most eye-catching feature, apart from it's size, is the piece of the building which rises up into the sky and arches over the rest of the structure. It does sort of resemble a snakes head reaching out across the building.

When up close to the building it did look a bit tired and worn. The exterior of the building is covered in  small tiles, a number of which were missing and not replaced.

A bit of an ugly site was the orange rust stains running down the building, caused by bolts or rivet, used in the construction but now rusting.

Definitely an impressive building more so from a distance.

.. I felt it was channelling the Sydney Opera House? Our guide said the building cost a lot of money... however on close inspection there are already signs of deteriation? Clearly, the concrete work was challenging. YMMV

Another wonderful work of the talented architect Calatrava. The same sci-fi aspect as his other creations. The Auditorio reminds me of the Palau de les Arts in Valencia. Amazing architecture!
On the website it says that guided tours are organized to visit the interior, but when I sent an e-mail to the official address asking for some details, they didn't bother to answer. A bad mark in the communication section.
On the ground floor is a cafe with an outdoor terrace with a beautiful view.

If you Love calatrava this is a must to see! Very unique, very modern style not comparable to anything (also not Sydney!).

I am very happy to have been there and making a day tour to visit it.

So as architecture is like art: you like it or not. So we love it= 5 stars

Only a 20 minute walk along the front is this impressive building. A unique architectural design. The cafe inside is large. The tea/coffee only costs €2 each. They have a great selection of cakes on display. Clean toilets too. What more could you want? Worth a visit.

We loved the Tenerife Auditorium! A big, charming building, near the ocean. Seemed like an infinite landscape from the top of it!

Unlike the Sydney Opera House, the Auditorio de Tenerife is not chockful of activity. While its architectural splendor is awe-inspiring from the outside, unless there is a performance occurring, you cannot see the inside. There are no placards easily found explaining the design or the site selection process nor is there the obligatory tourist kiosk from which to buy all of your Auditorio kitsch. Definitely book tickets online from the Auditorio's web site because you'll never know when or how you can get inside.

Go to Valencia or even better to Sydney and see what real archtecture is about. This one you can skip, its not worth your trip.

There is a FREE Tour every day at 12.30.
We had a free tour of the main and small auditorium by a delightful female guide.
This is a spectacular building and hard to believe its size on this small island in the Atlantic ocean.

I came to the Tenerife Auditorium on a weekday in July and overall I was impressed with the stunning architecture and great ocean views. This attraction is worth visiting if you are in Santa Cruz.
