you walk through a park, and then through streets that look like any suburb in the United States, and then all of a sudden you see the monastery. again, time your visit to a tour as the guides are fabulous. a working monastery, where you...More

Absolutely worth a visit, magnificent architecture and decorations. Unfortunately, after buying tickets, you find out the tour is only in Spanish, with no materials at all in any other language. The fact that it is forbidden to take photos inside is also deplorable.

We walked to this Monastery from the town - 25 minutes walk. The building was impressive, but you could only go round on a guided tour, and tours were only conducted in Spanish. The tour guide rushed the party round a fairly limited itinerary, and...More

This had particular significance as the burial place of Alfonso VIII and Eleanor of England. A quiet, elegant place. Of historical significance and a lovely walk from the center. Must visit.

A pleasant walk from the city Center. Some incredible fabrics preserved from the 1400s. A complete refuge for the hundred sisters and visiting Royal Princesses. Very interesting that the Kings employed Moors to decorate the convent with moorish stucco work. The buildings and beautiful courtyards...More

Tour is obligatory, but only available in Spanish. Everyone had earphones, but did not get it, "as it was only in Spanish", which I happen to understand to some extent. Written explanations also only in Spanish. "Go to the cathedral instead!"

We went mainly to the rating in the green Michelin Guide. No pictures are allowed inside and the tour is quick. I was not particularly impressed with the sights and regretted having spent the money for the entrance. I think it is overrated and can...More

Ever since a child I have been hearing and learning about Spain's history. The Monasterio de las Huelgas has always been highlighted to me as a jewel of architecture. That's why, while walking the Camino de Santiago in May 2013, I HAD TO keep walking...More
