Fortress of the Kings of Castile and Royal School of Artillery Its picture has been around the world: a unique fairy tale-like palace that brings together architectural tastes of different monarchs. It tells -to all those who come to know it- ancient palatial stories. Austere, as they were the Castilian kings, raised on the rock at the confluence of the valleys of the rivers Eresma and Clamores, the Alcázar seems to watch over the city. Its beautiful Tower keep, often compared to the bow of a boat sailing between the two rivers, is of a stunning beauty. Tourists are amazed to realize that the fortress is a living part of this Castilian city, chosen as a place of residence for many of the monarchs of the Trastámara dynasty.

I love history and historical buildings. The Alcazar is a spectacular medieval castle located in a hill, with wonderful views over Segovia. It has been designated as a World Heritage Site. Through the centuries, it has been a fortress, a royal palace, a state prison,...More

We visited the Alcazar de Segovia as part of a day excursion from Madrid with Amigo tours. This castle is located about 1.5 kilometers from the Plaza Oriental which holds the Roman Aquaeduct. To get there you will go past the Segovia Cathedral, Plaza Mayor...More

After traversing the steps from below and enjoying a bit of respite at the cafe (great views and good service), we toured the very impressive castle with many rooms retaining their character from more recent remodels. The fortress was the artillery collage for many years...More

This is probably the number one tourist destination in Segovia, and tourist groups head here in the mornings and early afternoons. We decided to visit late in the afternoon, when most groups have gone – and were pleased that we did. The final climb to...More

This is an impressive building, with gorgeous views (it is worth paying to visit the tower). Very well preserved, with amazing painted ceilings.

Alcázar de Segovia The “Alcazar of Segovia” is from the “Aqueduct” about a 10 minutes’ walk, and is open continuously, so do not be in a hurry for the visit. The function of the Alcazar was in the first place to be a fortress, a...More

A delightful visit that not only gave us historical foundation but brought to mind wonderful fairy tales from childhood. Yes their are places like Cinderella's castle. This is the castle on Spain's coat of arms. A must see.

It's easy to see why some say this is the basis for Disney's castle. One can imagine Rapunzel in its blue slate topped turrets. Ok, so,she's not a Disney character, but...The hike from the back side of it is 200+ steps, so approach from the...More

We loved this Alcazar. The insides were well done with plenty to look at. Just don't buy water in the cafeteria €1.80?
