This fascinating area is steeped in history, with city hall located in the same spot where kings once reigned. You'll find narrow streets and squares here, with Gothic mansions, museums, historic churches, bars and restaurants. The Placa del Rei is reputedly the place where King Ferdinand and Queen Isabella welcomed Columbus after his voyage to America.

This is the "Old City", perhaps the most historic area of Barcelona with narrow lanes and alleys and many of the oldest churches and buildings. Definitely a place to explore when in Barcelona.

"Old City" Barcelona is comprised of four districts: Barri Gotic; Raval; Sant Pere, Santa Caterina i la Ribera (El Borne); and Barceloneta. While Ciutat Vella is quite expansive, Barri Gotic is the oldest of the districts, dating back to the Romans from 133 B.C. The...More

Beautiful historic buildings separated by narrow roads with small boutiques and restaurants. Beautiful balconies with plants and laundry hanging down over the couble stone streets. Very picturesque, loved the exposed brick walls and oversized original doors!

While on a photography tour of Barcelona in August 2016, I spent several hours exploring this area of the city. Like the Gothic Quarter, it feels more local than touristy and not as crowded. There are many churches, small courtyards, and quiet streets and alleys...More

Barrio Gotico (Barri Gotic)
With its iconic, old-Europe streets and alleys, this

Barcelona. It blends historic artifacts from its days
under Roman dominion up through the Spanish Civil War
with a vibrant modern-day culture of artisan shops and
authentic culinary experiences. Avid explorers will be
