bcnKITCHEN is a local cooking school, we are passionate about food and our objective is to share that passion with you! We have two kitchens, one in the charming Born district and the other in the Boqueria market building, all of the ingredients we use come from the market that you will be visiting with our chef. Once you arrive back at our cooking school, wine in one hand apron in the other, it’s time to start cooking! After a couple of hours of action you’ll sit amidst the dishes you have prepared with the satisfaction of having prepared a Spanish feast!

My friend, who is visionally impaired, and I took the class with seven other adults. Chef Al was superb! We shopped in the markets, were assigned prep tasks in the kitchen and ate a fantastic meal which was supervised and explained very well from market to table. The four hours went by too quickly for both of us. We had... More

This was a great experience, starting in La Boqueria where we went shopping and our chef Al gave us a great explanation as we wandered around and bought the various ingredients. With a generous glass of wine to start, we were all kept busy cooking and prepping the various dishes as Al expertly directed us. Surprisingly, there were so many... More

We had such a great class with Leena! We learned so much and had a terrific meal... can't wait to cook for our friends at home so they can experience Spain through this wonderful food. Leena was so knowledgeable about the market and cooking techniques... and just a joy to be around for the afternoon.

What a wonderful find and much thanks to Trip Advisor! I was looking for a class that included Gazespaco as part of the experience! Lena was the best teacher! I appreciated her humor as well. It was nice that she sat with us at the end as well. Thanks for an excellent day!

Had the opportunity to take a cooking class with a couple of friends while in Barcelona. My friends had tried a different venue the previous year and enjoyed that one but wanted to try something different. We decided on BCNKitchen. Located at the back of the famous Boqueria Market it was very easy to find our way. The class size... More

This was a great class! We started with a tour of the market, where our instructor, Chef Alvaro, gave us tips about what to look for when buying Spanish ham and fresh seafood, and he picked up all of our ingredients for the class. Then we went up to the classroom and he gave everyone tasks to work on to... More

Chef Alvaro not just taught us how to cook paella but also made us laugh. It was a great family event.

This was one of the highlights of my week long stay in Barcelona! Leena was an excellent teacher and I brought so many skills home with me that will impact my cooking forever. - We got a complete overview of what we would be cooking (pan con tomate, tortilla, gazpacho, paella, creme catalan) and what part each plays in Spanish... We had a great 1/2 day with Alvaro at the Mercat. We started with a tour of the market, explaining more of the detail and background of some of the extraordinary food of Spain and then it was up to the kitchen to prepare our lunch time meal (wine glass in hand). Al was an excellent instructor, patient, thorough and... More

Staying in El Born / La Ribera

Neighbourhood Profile
El Born / La Ribera
The labyrinth that is El Born becomes most apparent the moment you turn down one of its side streets. But this is one of the few labyrinths you might actually enjoy losing your way in. After all, there are few places that live and breathe such exciting energy regardless of the time of day. This neighbourhood seamlessly transcends the old and new parts of the city, reflected in its vast array of restaurants ranging from fancy Michelin-star establishments to trendy fusion restaurants. Here you'll find historical and cultural attractions such as the popular Picasso Museum and the Gothic cathedral La Santa Maria del Mar, where you just might be able to catch a traditional Catalan wedding.
