What a stunning Bascilica. Huge and ornate, you can spend a day inside and still not see everything. We were blown away by the magnificense of it.

Its a nice visit, but nothing spectacular. The best part about it is the area its in and the Gothic influences. Great to walk around. If you are short on time its not something you have to see.

Such a beautiful basilica, not as crowded as the Sagradi but almost as beautiful! There is an 8Euro entrance but it is completely worth it, an amazing experience to see a piece of history.

Amazing church with architecture that will take your breath away. If you can get there to see the holy mass even better.

The Basilica of Santa Maria del Mar offers more space inside than Northern European gothic basilicas. We took guided tour to the roof - it was very intersting to learn about historical development of Barcelona - from the middle ages until recent days and to see the signs from the 1428 Catalonia earthquake. Great view from the roof in all... More

I think that this is the most beautiful church in Barcelona. That's gothic building, very simple but impressive. If you want enter, check before on what time there is free entrance.

Attended a mass at the church. It´s in a lovely location and the whole experience was very moving. Definitely worth a visit when you are in the gothic quarter. Try to go during a service!

I have to be honest. I only went here because i read the book 'Cathedral by the Sea'. It was spinetingling to say the least and i could see all the tears and pain that went into this beautiful Basilica. If you are contemplating visiting Barcelona read this book first

Staying in El Born / La Ribera

Neighbourhood Profile
El Born / La Ribera
The labyrinth that is El Born becomes most apparent the moment you turn down one of its side streets. But this is one of the few labyrinths you might actually enjoy losing your way in. After all, there are few places that live and breathe such exciting energy regardless of the time of day. This neighbourhood seamlessly transcends the old and new parts of the city, reflected in its vast array of restaurants ranging from fancy Michelin-star establishments to trendy fusion restaurants. Here you'll find historical and cultural attractions such as the popular Picasso Museum and the Gothic cathedral La Santa Maria del Mar, where you just might be able to catch a traditional Catalan wedding.
