Neighbourhood: Eixample
Passing through the glorious Plaça Catalunya, you enter the newer city district of Eixample, literally translated as “extension,” which immediately becomes recognisable by its more spacious streets and elegant atmosphere. The main artery of this sizable district, Passeig de Gracia, is lined with high-end international designer stores. Not to be outdone, the glitz and glamour of this zone is perhaps best exemplified by the comfortable and lavish five-star hotels that flank the divine and modernistic buildings from some of the world’s most recognised architects such as Gaudi and Montaner.

    Charming Neighborhood in Barcelona
Beautiful suburban neighborhood away from the noise of tourists and hubub. Plenty of options for restaurants that offer you the opportunity for a great meal, no matter what time of day it is and affordable as well. Within 15 minutes walking to Diagonal and the main avenues connecting you to transportation by bus or metro. Some large hotels in the area (Hotel Praktik) where we ate breakfast daily as well as boutique hotels, like ours (Casa Mathilda). Also an area with many airbnb choices if you prefer to stay on your own. Easy to hail a taxi from and many options for mini supermarkets.

    Architecture and food.
This is my favorite part of BCN, a big and very cool neighborhood of outstanding architecture, shopping, and lots of international food. We stayed on the edge this time and came to this area over and over to eat and drink. Full of monuments.

    Walking Tour, Best Architecture
This is where you will find the special architecture that the city is known for. This district is very large and consists of several distinct areas. Developed mostly in the 19th and 20th Centuries, the architects had a great time designing apartment buildings and institutions. Lots of food and cafes. Get a book that has a walking tour to find the best buildings.

    Sights and sounds
It's clearly an urban area with unique features. One must start with the architectural designs of the buildings in the area. Add in the wide avenues, the hotels, both luxury and otherwise, and the bars and restaurants. It is very walkable even with all the traffic.

Every block is 250m square with 5-10 restaurants per block. Very safe area with beautiful architecture, easy access to the train and metro. From Avinguda Diagonal it's only a 20 minute walk to most of Barcelona's amazing sites. Many hotels to choose from in the L'Eixample District. I would not hesitate to stay in this area again.

This is our favorite part of town. We would live here without a doubt. It is modern and elegant with everything one could need/want for a comfortable stay. It is very central to all city attractions and easy to get in and out of. We stayed in Eixample next to the top end of Las Ramblas for 2 weeks and were sad to go.

If you love taking long walks on small old streets, this is totally worthy:) i love wondering on the streets, occasionally stop for a coffee or for something sweet. You can also buy some souvenirs. The streets are safe and although there are lots of tourists, it is not that crowded. I enjoyed a nice long walk on a sunny afternoon

Lots of neighbourhood pubs, restaurants and tapas bars around every corner as well as small shops catering to all your basic needs. It's within a 15 minute walk to shopping along La Rambla and some very interesting areas along the way. It's a safe middle class area.

Many Gaudi Buildings here. Rick Steves has a great walk through the entire district. Filled with people but other than the Gaudi Buildings mainly locals. It amazed me that all the Buildings that look like Apartment Buildings belonged to 1 family when they were built. Mansions inside a City

Eixample occupies the central part of Barcelona on an impressive territory for the city. It is here that many sights of the first order are located, which are of main interest to tourists.
