We enjoyed taking this class. We were at three different levels: My husband has no painting experience; I have very little; but our daughter had taken college courses. Paul worked well with all of us! He allowed our daughter to go rogue and focused his energy on us. The results were wonderful, and the knowledge received in just a few hours of one-on-one was amazing. We all enjoyed a light lunch following the class which was included. Not enough wine for four adults, but other than that, it was a memorable experience that I would do again!

What a wonderful experience. A friend and I visited Barcelona for a week and this was a great way to not only see the city, but learn the finer art of water colors. Paul was patient and entertaining. We really learned the subtleties of this amazing art form. While seeing this gorgeous city. 100% worth it.

It was my first time in the city. My friend and I enjoyed the one-day painting workshop a lot. Paul is a very patient and experienced artist. I did learn some techniques of watercolour painting. Although my friend and I were both beginners in watercolour painting, we could draw a nice picture of Barcelona street and bring it home as a special souvenir for ourselves! What a special and exciting experience! It's one of the highlights of my trip!

In January I participated in Paul's 5 day plein air watercolor course in Barcelona. It was my first time in the city and what a wonderful way to discover it's magic. Each morning we met at a different venue, which, thanks to Angela's directions, was easy to find on foot or by bus or metro. I stayed in AirBnB near Plaza de Espanya and most days was able to walk to our rendezvous. The weather was so good that we only had one day in Paul's studio, though we did have to wrap up well on the other days. Paul brought everything needed for our outdoor classes, including a tasty lunch prepared by Angela.

It was my first time using watercolour and this course was a challenge to myself to 'feel the fear and do it anyway'. Paul has great patience and a wonderful approach. I had developed some 'bad habits' from using other mediums, which by day 5, thanks to Paul, had been unlearned. With only two other participants on the course, it was easy to stay in tune with each step and there was no pressure (except from my own inner critic).

Being in a small group provided lots of opportunities for interaction with the other participants who were both from the US. And as both Paul and Angela know the city so well, they are a great information resource on everything including, eating, shopping, sightseeing and transportation.

My family and friends are amazed that I could produce 5 beautiful watercolour paintings in 5 days. I have learned some new skills and no longer shy away from watercolour. I am so glad I challenged myself to do this. It has been a great experience and a great boost to my confidence.

Thanks to Paul and Angela for providing this wonderful opportunity.

My sister and I recently completed an excellent 5-day watercolour painting course with Paul Raymonde in Barcelona. We chose the course because of Paul’s structured approach to teaching (as explained on his website) and its location (I’ve been wanting to visit Barcelona for years). The course was well thought-out (thank you Paul), and well-organised and catered for (thank you Angela).

We were apprehensive about painting urban landscapes, expecting the subject matter to be complex and unforgiving for amateurs, but in fact it proved key to what we got out of the course. Paul started us off with a drawing lesson so we could tackle buildings with enough understanding of perspective to make them look convincing. This is the first time anyone has explained vanishing perspective and eyeline in a way I understood! After that the emphasis was on painting with tone, and then on introducing colour progressively. It was very helpful that every day Paul painted the same scene we were painting, so we could watch and learn from how he simplified and edited the real life scenes to produce paintings with a sense of place and drama. We had a mixture of outdoor painting in fine weather and studio painting when it rained, and we enjoyed both.

Paul is ‘old school’ in his feedback style so don’t expect to be told you’re doing brilliantly when you’re not. Given the current fashion for unremitting positivity this can be a little startling on occasion, but also amusing! Rest assured that Paul has your best interests at heart - he’ll step in to steer you away from disaster, and you won’t finish the day with a painting you never want to see again. It worked for us and we felt the course brought on our painting abilities in leaps and bounds.

To our minds the 5 day course offers a delightful balance: up and out for a concentrated morning of painting, then a light and tasty lunch (tortilla-filled baguettes if you’re lucky), and afterwards you’re free to explore Barcelona for the rest of the day. Highly recommend!

My husband and I participated in the one-day “plein air” workshop with Paul, though if we had had time we would have loved to do his full week-long workshop. Paul was an amazing teacher, managing somehow to be both patient and efficient. He helped us learn the basics in a very short amount of time, and he helped us execute paintings whose end result we could be proud of. He is a very skilled instructor, and we learned enough in one hour that we felt confident coming home and trying watercolors again on our own. His wife Angela is also extremely kind and generous, and we were treated to a delicious lunch with wonderful company. We felt like we had found friends and a home base in Barcelona, and we will be looking them up again next time we are in town.

Paul is a wonderful, patient teacher. I learned a lot about watercolor technique and painting in general and am delighted with the paintings I made each day with Paul's help and guidance. Each day introduced us to a new area of Barcelona where we set up our easels for plein air painting. Angela made us wonderful lunches and she and Paul made us feel comfortable and welcome to Barcelona.

I had a great en plein-air 5 day painting experience with Paul Raymonde in Barcelona. My husband Bryan and I, were fortunate to be staying with Paul and his wife Angela as Airbnb guests, and I was able to take part in the excellent intensive watercolour course. Paul is an extremely talented and experienced artist with infinite patience and a great willingness to pass on his knowledge and skills to you. We painted in different parts of beautiful Barcelona and managed to come up with 5 lovely watercolours (with Paul's help and guidance). I had some experience with acrylics and oil but was a novice with watercolour. Paul made it fun but I learned more from Paul in 5 days than I would have in a term elsewhere. I would certainly recommend this course whatever your skill level and it was certainly worth traveling from Australia to Spain to take part!!!!

I'd wanted to learn watercolour painting for a while and what better opportunity than plein air painting in Barcelona with expert tuition. I initially intended to do 3 days of painting but was enjoying it so much I completed the full 5 days. I met some lovely fellow painters and the hospitality from Angela and Paul was fantastic throughout. Paul took us to paint in some beautiful parts of Barcelona which I otherwise wouldn't have visited and the sessions took just the right amount of time to complete fully finished paintings followed by a relaxing picnic lunch. Not only did I come away from this course having enjoyed a fabulous week of painting but I have a lovely collection of watercolour souvenirs to take home with me, along with the new skills I've learnt to keep on developing this craft. I would highly recommend this course for anyone interested in learning about watercolour or simply as a fun thing to do when visiting Barcelona.
