In 1665, the Castro Fortress was constructed to protect the city from continuous attacks by the British Navy. During that time, the Castro, the San Sebastian Fortress and the city wall were a strong defensive system of the city. This defensive system was not very much effective because it couldn't stop hostile interventions. At present, the fortress has become a famous tourist attraction because of beautiful gardens, open spaces and superb views.

We docked a Vigo and was made aware of the old Fortress that overlooked the town. It was a really hot day and the walk was tiring but the views of Vigo were amazing. The fortress is worth a look as well. There was no admission charge and no where to get a drink either so make sure you take... More

This is in the park with lots of lookout points. You can get a good 360 view as well as see your cruiseships. This place is worth visiting. This is a stop also on the tour Tour for Cruisers.

These are pretty gardens blended into the old fortress with beautiful old trees and shrubs. There was not too much of a climb to the top although finally there were some steep stone steps without a handrail. The resulting view over the harbour was however reward in itself.

If you are walking to the fort it is a good climb to the top. The climb is worth it. Views overlooking the bay and across the bay were very good. Some of the old walls are still there and you can climb up on the walls. There are also some beautiful gardens.

When you do eventuality reach the top after climbing the many steps, the views are stunning to see, however we did find a pathway that took us down to the bottom.

Delightful walk, never even made it up to the ruins, just sat among the enchanting trees and looked at the view and the people walking their dogs, hope to make it up next time (it was kinda steep and some of us were out of shape)

Sincerely, I didn't know where to go in this town when the cruiseship I was on had a stop in Vigo. They told me it could have been interesting to have a walk in this park, but I was rather disappointed. The park was dirty and bad maintained. Nothing really worth to be seen.

It's about thirty minutes up steps, lots of senior citizens up there, so no excuse, fantastic views, pity some one in planning built a high rise office block in view of the bay,
