Thursday to Sunday, was enough time to do and see what you want in Gibraltar . The only problem is once all the tourists from Spain leave after there day trip, Gibraltar is like a ghost town. Shops close at 5 o’clock. Plenty of bars and restaurants no problem getting a table it’s very quiet. Main Street is a bit grubby and the drains stink. I have visited Gibraltar many times on day trips from Spain but 4 days was just to long. For spirits and tobacco it’s so cheap in the shops but food and drink in bars and restaurants are the same maybe a bit more expensive than the uk. Weather was wonderful.

I was stationed in Gibraltar in 1979 so I was keen to see how it has changed over the years. Main Street feels similar with a variety of shops and of course, numerous drinking establishments. It all looks fine until you reach casement square, which frankly is an absolute embarrassment and something the Government of Gibraltar should be absolutely ashamed of. It just looks grubby, dirty in fact, evidenced by a number of filthy shop awnings which look disgusting. We ordered a coffee from the Costa outlet but simply could not sit in their seating area as the ground was covered in litter and dog ends. Another issue concerns the amount of bird droppings which are evident just about everywhere, especially on the awnings erected by restaurant retailers. Just gives the area a really grubby look and makes what is essentially a central hub, very unappealing, especially to tourists. Gibraltar appears to be in the midst of a major structural rebirth, with numerous, modern apartment blocks being erected everywhere, so now would be an appropriate time for the Government of Gibraltar to heavily invest in improving all of the areas visited by tourists, to make it a much more agreeable and pleasant experience, so that people will want to return. Sadly, unless there is a major improvement in places like casement square, I won’t be returning anytime soon.

Main Street in Gibraltar is a busy, lively duty free treat- especially if you are looking for jewelry, watches, perfume, sunglasses or spirits. The street is dotted with many small restaurants, coffee shops and ice cream stores- something for any taste. The street leads to a large square which is filled with friendly and affordable restaurants, all with outside dining. Fun!

Having lived in Gibraltar for 2 yrs in the 70's my last visit to Main Street was 2018 and not a lot had changed. It is not a street to go to when 1 or 2 cruise liners are in as it gets so busy. With no visiting liners it is a very nice place to wander in and out of shops and offer a reduced price for items, if needed. Coffee in one of the cafes or bars, relax at a table in the street with a beer or whatever.
I always look forward to my next visit to Gibraltar and main street plus others.

Great atmosphere and lots of shops... At first sight I was impressed. But unless you are interested in cheap booze and cigarettes, exoensive jewellry or tacky leather jackets, there isn't a lot to see. The few UK shops (Debenhans, Marks, Monsoon...) are small and expensive and there are lots of typical cheesy souvenir stores. I am a self confessed shopaholic, but all I came away with were some reduced Xmas cards!

Dirty, noisy, clogged with cigarette smokers. Deviate from this road and it seems that everyone in Gibraltar owns a diesel car and drives around all day. I saw 1 electric during my stay. Cigarettes must be cheap because it seems almost everyone smokes. There is beauty here but you need see past all the dust, dirt and fag smoke.

I always enjoy a visit to Main Street as there is so much to see.
There is a good choice of places to eat and drink, especially Jury's, and there are plenty of shops to keep you occupied.
The British chains are well represented here such as M & S and Next, but there are also lots of independent shops and an interesting shopping centre as you get to Casemates.
The perfume and make up shops are much cheaper than in the UK and there is a fabulous choice. The Chanel shop is gorgeous, the perfume I looked at was £70 cheaper than John Lewis.
The jewellery shops have a wide range of items, from very very reasonable to very very expensive. The staff were very friendly but there was no hard sell.
Alcohol is way cheaper than the UK.
There are plenty of souvenir shops and all the cuddly monkeys you can dream of!
The cathedral is also worth a visit.
Main Street is worth a couple of hours of your time to walk the full length.

This was our third trip to Gibraltar, so we knew what to expect. We bought electronics, perfume and 6 litres of spirits at exceptionally low prices. Shopping on Sunday was not a great option, so we used Sunday to explore the top of the Rock, the Mediterranean Steps, the tunnels and everything else at the top.

The Main Street was easy to walk around. We were travelling out of season which made a difference. Can’t imagine what it is like when one or two cruise ships dock. It would be manic. Best buys would be alcohol, cigarettes and jewellery, no income tax. Other things seem usual prices compared with the UK.

We visited Gibraltar in October and everywhere was spotless. The road sweepers do an amazing job, constantly cleaning and at no time did we not feel safe due to Covid. Everyone was taking the necessary PPE precautions. The main street is full of different buildings and shops with some great bargains.
