We bought our tickets in advance from the Museum, which also provided excellent preparation for our visit here.

It was easy to get the number 2 bus from town and then walk carefully up the last bit of the road.

There are some information boards and the presentation from a very experienced archaeologist, Phil, was terrific. Phil gave a very interesting and engaging talk which provided lots of useful information about the archeological work being done here in collaboration with other areas, and background to the cave, the findings here, and how the work is completed, along with the changes in archaeology over the years, advancements in IT etc.

We learned such a lot during this visit which certainly built on every thing we learned last week at our museum visit.

Phil's passion for his subject shines through and this made it so engaging for us, entertaining and informative.

This was one of the highlights of our Gibraltar trip and would go so far as to say it is a must do in my opinion. I would recommend buying tickets at the museum so that they know you are coming in advance, and avoid disappointment.

British arrogance has long been the subject of anecdotes, but it has both a practical expression and an impact on tourists. It is clear that from the point of view of the government of Gibraltar, the most important thing for tourists is the duty-free shops on Main Road, monkeys on the mountain and batteries in the mountain, reminiscent of the long-past glorious victories of the Royal Army. And the World Heritage Site in Gibraltar is not mentioned on any signs, and the opening hours are made so that by the time you get to the remote west side closer to the Gibraltar Crematorium Gorham's Cave Complex will be closed. It works up to 14 hours. Why not until 10am?

I was very disappointed by the service offered by the museum, after an hour of border it was not possible to visit the site because he said of the employees had to send an email and enter a two-year long waiting list, dynamics not present on the site.
Paying you can see the same stuff you see from the street. I was out there for an hour to clarify the matter and no one entered the site so I also wonder if the waiting list does not exist. Instead of wasting time here better go from monkeys to the top of the rock.

Excellent half hour illustrated talk by a really knowledgeable lady(sorry , I’ve forgotten her name ) about the Neanderthals and how Gibraltar was formed. Unable to get down to the caves as it needs to be booked about a year in advance. Also pretty steep steps down to them , so you would need to be quite fit.
New building with toilets and parking. We walked up, and the path stopped and started and changed to different sides of the road,so not much good for pushchairs /wheelchairs or small children - a bit dangerous really.
No cafe there which is a bit of a shame as beautiful views.
Only open from 10-2 . It seems as though it’s not had very much money or thought spent on it, which is a huge shame..combined ticket with museum costing £12 , (also includes another site - good view but not much else! ) which is good value.

Practically you can see paying the same thing you see from the road which is the entrance to the caves. To see the quarry I discover on my arrival that I have to send an email and that there is a phantom waiting list of boh maybe two years. I ask to speak with the director who can only tell me that it is written on the web, when I ask where because the official site does not say this stuff answers me like a broken record that is on the web. Criticism does not interest them because they want to be right.
I was out there an hour and I didn't see anyone on the supposed waiting list coming or going.
I strongly Recommendation to avoid going to not waste time.

The average person will never have access to the cave system. Even the people who work at the Info Center in town are on a year+ waiting list. We headed to the rarely open viewing platform instead to at least get a look at the cave but there was a 5 pound fee - to see the same view you can get from the street above! No thanks. I'm all for preserving historic sites but there should be clearer info about its inaccessibility.

Having been asked at work to view the now world heritage site was a great choice. Its not very big and the stairs leading down to it can be a bit tricky, but once there, the area opens up to a large beach cove with a hidden cave where the tour is given, with adequate walking areas and balustrades having been placed. while the tour guide gives the history lesson you are free to explore this cave and try to find the locations talked about.

This is the second time we've visited this excellent site. The guide was extremely knowledgeable and gave us an in depth history of the Neanderthals and of Gorhams Cave. Absolutely fascinating.

However, as others have mentioned, this is a good 10 minutes walk from Europa Point and if you have to walk the pavement is virtually non existent, except for a couple of sections. The road is reasonably busy but traffic speeds are low. But it would be nice if the Gibraltar Government did some road works for pedestrians to this World Heritage site. Some seating would be nice at the viewing platform, as not everyone is able to stand all the time in order to listen to the excellent guide.

We walked a long way from Europa Point on a hot day, only to find that not only was it not signposted, but it wasn't even open yet (i.e. not finished) yet on the map it said it was open in Spring!! Shame, as the Museum indicated it was a great place to visit.
