Don't know what to add that hasn't already been said.If you are doing the Camino, however, this is a required stop just for the story and representations of Santo Domingo. Not enough raves about the tower-DO IT-the views are breathtaking. These are sacred places and will leave a mark on your soul.

Off the typical tourist path in Spain but worth the visit to this unique Cathedral. You can also climb up the stairs to the roof of the church for a lovely view. Roosters/hens alive in the church, chirping away, Read up on the legend of this fascinating place. Worth visiting.

Following a visit to the information centre where we learnt about the miracle of the chickens and the hanging boy it is essential to visit the cathedral to see the tomb of Santo Domingo and also the chickens and part of the gallows. A fascinating church well worth the visit along with a climb up the adjacent free standing clock/bell... More

We arrived at the cathedral when a mass was in progress, so we were not able to view the central part of the building. However, there was much to see in the chapels around the outer part of the building, including relics, paintings and sculpture. The cathedral is an impressive building.

We could not work out why there were cockerels and hens celebrated around the town and then we visited the Cathedral (3ey to get in)...now we know the story and you have to go there to learn more too. Very ornate and elaborate site for a small Spanish town. Most beautiful. They even have live chickens over one small chapel...oh... More

The cathedral isn't that impressive from outside and looks as if it has been cobbled together over the centuries (which it has), but once in you'll be treated to a sumptuous feast of altars, relicts, devotional artefacts and great architecture. It's one of the most fascinating cathedrals we have ever been to - memorable throughout. There are guided tours (including... More

It is easy to suffer from church visit offload in Rioja land but this cathedral is definitely one that I'd recommend visiting. It is probably the only cathedral in the world with a live chicken and roaster. It is extremely well cared for and someone with real flare has done the interior and exterior lighting. The audio tour via handset... More

This cathedral (12th C.) honors the saint Dominic (NOT to be confused with the "St" Dominic of Spanish Inquisition infamy) who spent his life aiding the local people of La Rioja, and especially pilgrims on their way to Santiago. The Church itself is an architectural masterpiece, the altarpiece is unparalleled in the area, but of course, the real "attraction" are... More

This cathedral is dedicated to Santo Domingo and the miracle he supposedly performed. I wouldn't want to spoil it for you - you've got to read it for yourself! But apart from the far-fetched miracle, the cathedral itself is very beautiful - it has a magnificent altarpiece and an excellent attached display of artworks. And the live rooster crowing in...
