After many previous visits to Madrid's Prado, this was the first time I had really
noticed and so made time to study this magnificent monument to Francisco Goya. First of all this bronze figure would seem to perfectly capture the brooding physical presence of the man in a way that 150 years later others would do to encapsulate similar characteristics in Churchill. How fitting that this 3D representation gazes across at the great Prado which houses so many of his finest paintings. The bronze sits on a huge Rodinesque plinth which incorporates marble reproductions of some of Goya's most famous subjects on canvas, the prize example being the carving of his Nude Maja with a stifled cheeky expression surely worthy of the Mona Lisa! The monument's location couldn't be more perfect against a trimmed grass bank topped with trees and the white Hotel Ritz behind, a building probably from Goya's time.

This statue is in the small esplanade at the main entrance for ticket holders for the Prado National Museum. Don't miss it!

The statue of Francisco Goya, seen as one of the most important artists of the late 18th and early 19th century and the last of the Old Masters sits appropriately outside the Prado Museum. Worth a look.

I think this bronze, marble and granite statue of Goya (1746-1828) on the north side of the Prado Museum is exceptionally well done. It captures the renown painter at an older age with a stern expression, dressed in typical attire for the time, including a long overcoat and a top hat in hand. He stands on a pedestal with depictions from some of his works, such as the famous "La Maja Desnuda." Done in the late 1790s, this nude was considered quite risque at the time and is one of the top Spanish paintings in the museum.
It is easy to overlook the statue, which stands by steps across from where people queue to buy tickets for the Prado. Intent on threading my way through the crowd already waiting an hour before the museum opened, I almost walked right past the work. Sculpted by Mariano Benlliure, it was unveiled in 1902. I consider the statue to be a fitting tribute to a man, who was perhaps the most important artist of the late 18th and early 19th centuries. He looks more like a statesman here, which may signify that he at one time held the highest rank for a painter at the Spanish court.
This statue reminded me to revisit Goya's black paintings, done near the end of his career (1819-23). Completed in oils on his home's plaster walls, these remarkable works are on the museum's ground floor and deal with somber subjects, such as misery and death.
I think this work is worth a brief stop for anyone interested in Goya, statues or a bit of Spanish history,. It could be combined with a Prado visit or included in a walk down the Paseo del Prado.

Estatua de Francisco de Goya is the statue of a great Master. Goya is considered one of the greatest in his art. The beautiful sculpture stands on the steps opposite one of the entrances to the Prado Museum. The statue is on top of a tallish pedestal which also contains some reliefs, particularly that of Goya's La Maja desnuda, or The Nude Maja.

This statue stands in tribute to Francisco de Goya, the great 19th century Spanish painter. Counted amongst the great Spanish masters,
The statue depicts Goya as a middle aged man. He is wearing an overcoat and the outfit of a 19th century gentlemen. In his left hand, he holds a hat, pressed against his chest, his right behind his back. His right leg in front as if striding forward. Well worth seeing, especially when combined with a visit to the Prado.
Stand on the balcony of the 1st floor of the Prado for a bird's eye view of the statue.

Across from the Prado Museum you'll find a fine statue to Francisco de Goya, one of Spain's most influential artists. Of course, you'll find many of his greatest works in the Prado.

Walking towards the world famous Prado Museum you come across this fitting statue to this great artist some of whose works are on display in the Prado .
The statue is very well detailed and certainly catches the eye and makes for some great photographic opportunities.
The statue to Francisco Goya is found on Paseo De Prado.
Well worth checking out.

Walking to the Prado museum one can not miss this impressive bronze statue, dedicated to Francisco Goya, the Spanish painter. A nice area to sit and take a break among the trees.
