Monumental in scale, but quite bland in aesthetics. Supposedly a Neo-Baroque design, it looks more like the illegitimate offspring of Art Deco and a lego brick.

The first skyscraper in Madrid, built in Franco's time. It is now a hotel and there is a great rooftop bar with great views of the whole city.

it's an hotel, not an attraction. Beautiful rooftop. Little gym. Little swimming pool. Cleaned room. A little inefficient in managing the check-in/check-out.

This building is one of the iconic buildings in Madrid, Plaza España. It is a huge skyscraper, not the tallest one, not the biggest one in Europe. But when it was built, it was big. It is an important and historic building of Madrid and it has been empty and abandoned for years. It has been sold for chinese millionaire man but now it has a new owner and it will be a hotel, shops...

This building is just about as out of place as the nearby Temple De Debod. It reminds me of a very old skyscraper such as you may see in Manhatten and to me is a very beautiful piece of architecture.

On a roasting hot August afternoon my twin brother Stephen and I hopped the metro down to Plaza De España and one of the landmark buildings that overlooks this most famous of plaza's is Edificio España.
A great looking building, constructed between 1948-1953 and built from designs from architect Julian Otomendi,it stands 117 metres high and has 25 floors ,it was at one time the tallest building in Spain ,now a hotel building, its a great building thats most definitely well worth checking out if you're in the area and easy to locate on Plaza De España.

This is a very imposing building, located on the edge of Espana square.
Currently, the building houses a hotel.
The view from the top of the building is lovely, but the building itself is anything other than attractive.

This is a huge building in front of Plaza Espana. It reminded me of those art deco style architecture buildings in New York, which gives a classic and luxurious feel.

Opinion is divided about Edificio España ,some think its plain and some think its fantastic, I personally think it's an amazing looking building and is a stunning backdrop to Plaza De España.
The Hotel Riu Plaza España is the eighth tallest building in this magnificent city, constructed between 1948 - 1953 it stands 117 metres high ( 25 floors ) and was designed by architect Julián Otamendi and built in the very evocative Neo Baroque style of architecture that is so pleasing on the eye in my opinion, it was once Spains tallest building untill Julián Otamendi designed the stunning Torre De Madrid in 1957 .
In 2017 the entire building was acquired by the RIU Hotel chain and was converted into a 585 room hotel .
It's a stunning piece of architecture and most definitely well worth checking out if your planning a holiday to Madrid.

We saw this building almost everyday, as we walked through Plaza de Espana, while staying in Madrid. It is a huge building by it was covered up, obviously for renovations or something like that, so we could not really see much of it. It is supposed to be one of the tallest buildings in Madrid and a hotel company owns it.
