This is the central plaza and a gateway to life in Madrid. The shops, bakeries and restaurants are lively. All roads lead to the Puerto del Sol. Make sure you step on Kilometro Cero to ensure your return.

This is a historical city centre point. It is the place where the New Year celebrations take place. From here many of the major city attractions are within walking distance

The area itself is no big deal, but go down any street headed away and it's fabulous. Tons of great little streets brimming with activities, restaurants and sites. Our hotel was here and a great starting place for all we did

OK if you can cope with crowds, if you can't keep go to Plaza Santa Ana. If you can get a spot at a tapas bar then sit, if not keep walking walking walking

What is the name of the hotel? I was thinking of another hotel in a different city when I responded. Puerta del Sol is a plaza in Madrid.
