We are in Madrid for the weekend and decided one of the 3 hour tours would be ideal. We found one in Plaza Mayor and our guide was Mari. What a fantastic guide she was. I can't recommend this tour highly enough. Our guide was Jovan who was funny, informative, entertaining and a tremendous guide to Madrid. Between invisible nuns with special cookies and tips not to wear two different fabrics, this was an absolutely top notch way to become familiar with the city and learn some interesting trivia along the way. Thanks Jovan.

Had a wonderful tour with Mari Carmen, despite being part of a rather large group. She covered Madrid's history, landmarks, art, and even taught us basics of flamenco. The tour was around 3 hours total but never felt like a bore. Mari spoke excellent English, and really exhibited the best of local charm and character. Definitely recommend!

I took the English free tour with Joaquin and it was amazing. Great information, could answer all my questions, and I had a lot! Always made sure people had somwhere to stand/lean/sit and kept the group interested and interactive. Highly recommend the company and Joaquin in particular.

We had an excellent free walking tour on a Thursday afternoon with our tour guide Joaquín. The tour was very informative and he showed us the best sights to see around the old part of the city. At every stop he gave a comprehensive history of the locale. Would recommend to friends and family visiting Madrid!

My family took a Free walking tour of Madrid last Sunday with Sebastian. He was GREAT! He had such an amazing grasp of Spanish history and such a fun way of telling us about it that we all came away feeling like we actually understood a very complex era in Spanish history while having a really enjoyable two hours. Thanks... More

I went on the free walking tour of Madrid last week. My knowledgeable guide Enrique made it a fantastic experience and I would recommend it for anyone visiting the city on a budget, or if you're interested in the history of Madrid and Spain. Although the tour is free, the guides do ask for a donation at the end, however... More

Neighbourhood Profile
Expansive plazas, local and foreign crowds, street performers, colorful lights, window shopping, restaurant signs promising the best paella, ham, and churros con chocolate- this is downtown Madrid, a collection of plazas interconnected by a network of side streets. Some of these side streets are wide pedestrian shopping routes, and some are hidden, so it's possible to duck in and out of the bustle as desired. The iconic Puerta del Sol is the giant crossroads of the city and a must-see attraction at any time of the day. The nearby Plaza Mayor, completely enclosed by historic red buildings, is an ideal place to grab a bite to eat outside, amidst scores of tables and people out for a stroll. Plaza Isabel II (also known as “Opera”) is smaller and a good meeting spot, and the stately Plaza del Oriente is the front yard of the Royal Palace. Centro can be touristy (pickpockets are unfortuately not unheard-of here), crowded, and sometimes gimmicky, but it is also the place to experience classic Madrid.
