There are two tours. Tour 1 covers an area within about 2 kilometer radius and which one could cover easily on foot. Although the buses are advertised to arrive every 8-10 minutes, the gap is often much more. Buses were usually too full and tourists had to wait a long time before being admitted to a bus. Much of the... More

This is the best choice for Madrid one day tour, since this city was big. And the ticket for 2 routes was in very seasonable price. Make sure you have the space on upstair, it can be always fully occupaid.

We reviewed a few tours and settled on this one. It was great. Busses every 5-10 mins. The coverage was of the main sites and included route 1 and 2. It does exactly as it says on the tin. The only delays were due to popularity (crowded) and festivals ( road closed). A further top tip is that you can... More

I was hesitant to use the Madrid City Tour after reading some of the reviews. But I tried it anyway. I wasn't very good. The first problem is the headphones they give you are such poor quality it's difficult to understand the commentary, Use your own headphones if you have them - problem solved. The second problem is the commentary... More

Dear dhoag123, Thank you for writing us this review, First of all, we regret that you couldn't get to use the hop-on hop-off service and benefit of its advantages. The attendance of the buses had been higher due to Easter holidays, but our company will consider solutions in order to avoid this kind of situations, especially in high-season. Regarding to... Yes! Very punctual, reliable service, with friendly and helpful staff, providing interesting information all around the city, in two different but complementing loops.

I'm not sure what the negative reviews are about. I personally purchased the 2 day ticket and found it an excellent way to see the city. The buses run very regularly...yes some are crowded but it is the beginning of school holidays and the weather is nice so what do you expect? I was unable to get on a bus... More

Madrid is relatively a small city. I only needed a one day pass to complete both routes of the HopOnHopOff bus. Of course, I only got off twice during the routes. For about $23, one can see all the "sights" and "sites" of Madrid from the top of a bus.

Dear Aferry, Thank you very much for your opinion. Indeed, this is a good way to see all highlights of Madrid. We also have two extended routes twice per day where other points of interest are reached and which takes a little bit longer. We hope to see you again on board soon! Kind regards, Antonio. More

We've found hop-on, hop-off buses are a good place to begin a city visit, but Madrid's version needs a few tweaks to rate 4 or 5 stars. We purchased our tickets at the tourist information booth at Plaza Mayor and bordered the bus at #41 Calle Mayor. That was the easiest part of the entire experience. About 6 stops after... More

Staying in Paseo del Prado

Neighbourhood Profile
Paseo del Prado
The area around the elegant Paseo del Prado boulevard is much-visited by both locals and tourists. The world-famous Prado, the Reina Sofia, and the Thyssen-Bornemisza museums form a triangle of art and culture that spans this grand and beautiful avenue. On weekdays, the Prado Museum opens its doors for free after-work hours, drawing a diverse and excited queue of art lovers that wraps around the block. Palacio de Cibeles and Círculo de Bellas Artes cultural centers are other artsy hangouts to check out, with rooftop bars that provide impressive views of the city. While the Paseo del Prado and its roundabouts form a busy throughway in Madrid, a broad green pedestrian park in the middle is a calm and gorgeous place for a relaxing stroll. Just east of the museums, the Retiro Park is always a confluence of activity as families and friends of all ages take to the pretty paths and lawns to stretch their legs or to have a picnic.
