Our tour guide Alfredo met us in Puerto de Sol with his green umbrella, there were four of us on the tour in total. It zipped along for over two hours but never felt hurried. It was very informative and not just for history. We did this on our second last day of our trip which was a mistake as... More

We had scheduled a tour and inquired several times about what the start time was because it was not evident when we purchased our "free" $2 tickets. The guide contacted us directly to confirm a time. We showed up and waited for about 30 minutes. TWO and a half hours later she emailed me and said she was very sorry... More

We loved this tour. Alfredo saw out group of five wandering around Puerto de Sol and looking in our Rick Steves guidebook. He offered a price of 8 per person and we took him up on it. The 2 hour tour was really a 3 hour but that didn't bother us. They advertise a "free tour" but Alfredo was very... More

We are a group of students studying abroad and were visiting Madrid for a weekend. We had a group of 9 and ended up on a personal tour with Alfredo. He was very knowledgable and detailed in his tour, and his love for his city was very evident. We had a great time until the end of the tour came... More

We had a personal tour with Alfredo, whose knowledge of the city is detailed and interesting. Along with showing us the famous spots and telling the history of the city, he was able to make recommendations and share his experience of living in the city. A great two hours.

If you have time do this tour or if you haven't make time. They take you to all the out of the way places. Our tour guide, Alfredo, was a font of knowledge explaining all things quirky about the streets of Madrid. Well worth the time (2 1/2 hours) wish we'd done it earlier in our stay it would have... We had a great time with our guide Andres. He showed us amazing parts of Madrid. He also showed us symbols, signs, slogans, hotels, ... That we otherwise wouldn't notice.

Book online. We had a tour for 2 of us that included the highlights and history of Central Madrid. Our guide, Alfredo was excellent. He walked at our pace, listened to what we wanted to see, found us shade and water, and helped us to plan the next few days. It was like walking With a good friend. Highly recommended.... More

We joined a free walking tour of madrid, with guide Frank. About 20 persons, mostly young people, we walked through some landmarks of the city, heard some stories and history bits. In all it was pleasant in infornmative, for us the first Madrid city encounter. We planed to joined another one but unfortunately we skipped it.

Staying in Centro

Neighbourhood Profile
Centro
Expansive plazas, local and foreign crowds, street performers, colorful lights, window shopping, restaurant signs promising the best paella, ham, and churros con chocolate- this is downtown Madrid, a collection of plazas interconnected by a network of side streets. Some of these side streets are wide pedestrian shopping routes, and some are hidden, so it's possible to duck in and out of the bustle as desired. The iconic Puerta del Sol is the giant crossroads of the city and a must-see attraction at any time of the day. The nearby Plaza Mayor, completely enclosed by historic red buildings, is an ideal place to grab a bite to eat outside, amidst scores of tables and people out for a stroll. Plaza Isabel II (also known as “Opera”) is smaller and a good meeting spot, and the stately Plaza del Oriente is the front yard of the Royal Palace. Centro can be touristy (pickpockets are unfortuately not unheard-of here), crowded, and sometimes gimmicky, but it is also the place to experience classic Madrid.
