Rigoletto by Miguel del Arco is terrible
Teatro Real de Madrid 2023, Rigoletto: it was …terrible! Orgies, perversion and masturbation on stage while the poor sopranos do their job flawlessly. The director apparently found no other way to draw attention to his production. How can you even mix this with the classics? And most importantly, why? After the first act, people began to leave. Bottom line: if you sit and listen with your eyes closed, it’s amazing. The director Miguel del Arco should be fired! I think Giuseppe Verdi turned in his grave 🤦🏻‍♀️

    Morning tour of Teatro Real
A group of ladies did a tour of Teatro Real with a guide called Hortensia. Right from the get-go Hortensia showed she was very businesslike and informed us that if we didn’t keep up with her she “would hit us with the sole of her shoe”. Obviously she wasn’t saying that literally but she kept calling us to “come on, come on”, even though we were all keeping up as best we could. She really turned unpleasant when a couple of women needed to take a toilet break during the tour, and generally made us all feel a nuisance to her. Whilst outside on a balcony of the theatre she ridiculed a man below singing, which showed again her unpleasant nature. This woman should not be dealing with the public as she clearly does not like the public.

    Very limited tour
The tour was not worth the money or the time sadly. The guide was perfectly fine but the limitations were huge. No photography, limited actual ‘tour’. The Covent Garden Opera House tour is far better if you’re ever in London.

    Okay
I have toured many opera houses in my travels. This was wasn't as I had hoped. I bought my ticket online and made use of the audio guide on my phone. It was easy to get started. However, after 2 stops I lost service so had to read the digital paragraphs instead of getting audio. It came back towards the end. Some rooms were very nice but the theatre itself wasn't that impressive. Grateful for the human guides along the way as a few times I got turned around and they assisted me beautifully. I suggest to only do if you have time. It took me under 1 hr.

I bought 2 tickets for La Traviata at Teatro Real on May 9 and 17 just to see Placido Domingo on stage.

May, 9 Reference: 0000995505200204172400 May, 17 Reference: 0000401231200130154400

As the Minister of Culture of Spain is so non-prefessional and Maestro Domingo can't sing is Spain and #TeatroReal anymore, I requested Teatro Real to cancel my tickets and make a full refund. I already sent 4 requests to Teatro Real by email but they have ignored all my requests.

I asked them in Facebook messenger about refund, they answered that they will not make a refund. Right after that they blocked me at their Facebook page.

Yesterday I called tto #TeatroReal, I talked to a person who said he speaks English. After I said that I want to cancel my tickets and get a refund, he said his english is not good enough, he doesn't understand me and advised me to send a request by email.

To celebrate our wedding anniversary we attended a performance of Aida at the Teatro Real. This was the first time we had visited, we booked seats towards the front of "Paraiso" (the amphitheatre) online so wasn't sure what to expect. The seats were in fact very good, great sight lines and on an aisle which we prefer. The acoustics are superb and the production fabulous, great choreography as well as singings and interesting use of holograms. We dressed up for the occasion and many of the Spanish audience did so as well. Only small thing, we couldn't work out where and how to order interval drinks so that particular pleasure was missed but no matter.

Visited here for the iggy pop gig. Entry was pretty simple and plenty of signs to follow to find your seats. The theatre certainly has a wow factor once inside. Very steep but wow you get a great view. The sound was also very good. My only niggle was that once the concert started people from the cheaper seats came down and sat in the more expensive ones.

Absolutely spectacular opera house open to vists during the day to 3pm. There is a charge of €8 per person and youve go dowload a bar code to get the information to the phone on this self guided tour. Really enjoyed the luxury and wonderful interior of this prestigious venue

Backstage Pass to the Royal Theatre/opera house is a nice excursion. The theatre has a box office but you want the ticket area to the right of the box office. The front desk guy initially told me I had to come back a day later to catch a tour but it would be Spanish speaking. Then when I arrived again a day later he didn’t add me to the personal tour but instead I scanned a QR code for an audio guide on my phone. This was sufficient. The reception rooms, Royal box and main stage are all impressive. While it may not be in the top 3 things to do in Madrid, it offers a glimpse of the backstage glamour.
