If you like Goya, or even Spanish art in general, seeing this little church off the beaten track will be an enjoyable experience. Its ceiling is covered with a lovely series of frescos by Goya on the life of St Anthony, showing many of the realistic touches and everyday faces which were the painter's trademark. Goya is also buried in the church, right underneath his own frescos.
If, however, you are not particularly a Goya fan, or prefer razzle-dazzle in your art, you might not find a visit here particularly fulfilling. The frescos are lovely, but not something so spectacular I would make a special trip to come see (again). My advice would be to visit only if you are in the area, since the church is free to enter anyway. Or to combine a trip here with a visit to the Museo Cerralbo on the other side of the park and the Templo of Debod in between, which would make for a much more interesting sightseeing experience.
One tip for Goya fans: look for the Cemeterio de la Florida a short distance behind the church, on the left side of the road going up the hill. This is the cemetery where most of the people depicted in Goya's famous 'Third of May' painting are buried.

Building located near Príncipe Pío and Madrid Río, we find this neoclassical building built by order of Charles IV between 1792-98 with the design of Felipe Fontana, since 1928 the cult was removed to a replica of it located next door, remaining only as a small museum where Goya's tomb is located as a tribute to the wonderful frescoes painted in its vault, restored in April 2005. With a Greek cross plan and a very small size, it houses the masterpiece of the Aragonese painter. Using innovative techniques for the time and a spectacular speed full of color and light, to improve vision, mirrors can be used to better see the ceiling of the vault without suffering neck pain. It can be visited for free from Tuesday to Sunday, there are a couple of steps, keep that in mind for chairs, but they are very bearable. It doesn't take long to visit due to its size and it is a stone's throw from the royal palace, the Almudena and the royal galleries so you can take a day trip.

Guided tour during the day of Madrid another look, in which the guide explains the history of the construction of the hermitage, one of the 3 that remain in Madrid, as well as a summary of the master's life. If you like the paintings of Francisco de Goya you should not miss the frescoes in the apse that represent the adoration of the Trinity and higher up in the dome the miracle of Saint Anthony. Also on the walls you can see cherubs and angels of great beauty. Also inside the hermitage lie the mortal remains of the great painter, with the original tombstone from his first burial in Bordeaux.

Beautifully restored, this chapel on the banks of Mansanares houses Goya's tomb and was decorated by him. We find many characters present in his paintings, who contemplate his remains from the top of the ceiling. No need to catch a torticollis: four mirrors at the corners allow you to observe details without harming yourself. On the way out, you have to cross the street to look at the statue of Goya, modest and artist to the acute and deep look. Not to be missed, complement to the Prado visit.

If you want to discover one of the best kept secrets of Madrid, don't miss the hermitage of San António de la Florida. Inside you can admire the magnificent frescoes that Goya made at the request of Charles IV in 1798, and which show a scene of the saint's miracle surrounded by popular characters of the time. Furthermore, the remains of the brilliant painter rest in this hermitage, which were brought from Bordeaux in 1919. You will also be able to learn about the tradition of the pilgrimage on June 13, when single women came to ask the saint to find them a good husband. A hermitage full of history, art and culture that will surprise you.

A small unremarkable church on the outside. Inside beautiful frescoes done by Goya. Goya is also buried here. A twin church next door was built for worship leaving the original just for the enjoyment of the paintings

This hermitage exhibits fresco paintings on the walls and in the dome by Francisco de Goya, in addition to housing his mortal remains. It has been a National Monument since 1905. To preserve the paintings, a copy of the hermitage was built right next to it, dedicated to the cult of San Antonio.

Exciting to pay tribute to the great Master Goya who rests there.
The frescoes he painted are full of spirituality and deeply moving. It is an unfrequented site and you can enjoy it in recollection. Adjacent to the cemetery that welcomes the victims of the shooting described by Goya in his famous painting.

Below the Royal Palace you will find the Ermita, a slightly long walk, but nice sidewalks and steps lead access to this area. Worth a visit to see the Goya ceilings and his final resting place. I recommend a short cab ride to the Ermita to make it easier to find the first time, then an easier walk back to the Don Quijote statue and Rpyal Palace area. Pass a great looking old bar before you come to the Ermita.

I have visited the Hermitage several times, before it was restored and now, without a doubt, it is much better now. Goya's frescoes are incredible, as well as his tomb at the foot of the altar, dominating the place. It is a small chapel that takes you back in time to another place. The girls at the entrance are very nice and admission is free, what more could you ask for? I will visit it every time I visit Florida.
