This is a very gracious square located in the Buen Retiro Park. At the center of the monument there is a Bronze cast statue of King Alfonso XII (1857–1885). The monument was inaugurated in 1922 and it is 86 meters long, 30 meters high and 58 meters wide. What a spot to take photos.

This is a huge and beautiful monument which is located in the centre of the park looking out over the boating lake. It is very spectacular and photogenic and commands an excellent view.

This is an absolutely stunning monument, located next to the lake in Retiro park. The beautiful monument is best observed around sunset, when the red sun paints it in a glorious orange color. Highly recommended!

Stone monument next to a lake in the middle of public park. Scenic views. You can hire a boat to go on the lake. There are pricey cafes in the park. A must see if you are in Madrid.

Impressive statue overlooking the lake in the Retiro Park which you can get up close to, but it is also an impressive sight from the other side of the lake.

I consider this monument (1922) to be one of the most magnificent in a city full of monuments. It is a tribute to King Alfonso XII, who ruled Spain from 1874 to 1885. As such, the king holds center stage in the massive work. He is cast in bronze astride a horse that stands on a tall pedestal with additional... More

A huge, dazzlingly white monument to Alfonso XII at the edge of the lake in Parque del Retiro. There is a huge statue of Alfonso XII on horseback, surrounded by allegorical figures representing Progress, Peace and Freedom. As if this was not enough, there are also statues of mermaids and bronze lions, all surrounded by a massive curved colonnade. You... More

We stopped at a cafe on the edge of the lake for a drink and churros before taking a stroll around. The monument is impressive with the statue of Alfonso XII in the centre, There are benches to sit on in the area and a chance to take in this relaxing place.

One of the most interesting and impressive things to see at Parque Del Retiro is the large scale Monument to King Alfonso XII, who ruled the nation from 1874-85, situated on the eastern side of the large lake found in the centre of the park. The monument features a 30 metre high equestrian statue of King Alfonso XII standing upon... More
