We passed through here on a self guided walking tour and took a couple of photos of the statue of Queen Isabella II alongside the rear facade of the opera house where performances began during her reign (1830-1904).

This plaza has the backdrop of the Opera house which is impressive. However apart from that it was not as busy or I felt good as other squares in Madrid. There is also a statue of Isabella II who this plaza is named after. Apparently...More

Other than the Teatro Real (Madrid's impressive opera house) the square is not special in any way. Restaurants, cafes, fast-food chains and a statue of Isabel II in the middle.

Busy square and neighborhood with lots of restaurants, cafes and shopping nearby. Transit hub for the Metro. The Opera House and various entertainment venues, some seedy. Lively.
