Catedral de Sta Maria la Real de la Almudena is a highly impressive cathedral and compliments the Royal Palace next door well. It has two grand facades both different with the one facing the palace the best with huge Gothic columns. Inside is plain with...More

The ceiling is the only special part. Modern church with good measures and nice light. You simply miss the old paintings and statues of the elder churches. The same for the crypt down the road. Spend a while when tou pass but don’t make a...More

We love to visit cathedrals while traveling in Europe. The Catedral de Sta Maria la Real de la Almudena.was unique in its architecture and style. We really enjoyed our visit there. Another beautiful cathedral we got to experience in Madrid.

This one is worth seeing - tho sometimes we get tired of "another cathedral"!!!! It will only take about an hour

The church is rather modern, windows and ceilings are of contemporary art. Visiting the royal palace one cannot miss the cathedral. Still we have visited churches which were more impressive to us than this one.

This is definitely not to be missed. The decoration of the ceilings and dome are surprisingly bold and bright, as are the stained glass windows. It looks brand new, the stonework crisp and pristine. There are many interesting side chapels and paintings too. Peaceful for...More

The cathedral is on the opposite side of the plaza that is in front of the Royal Palace. It is handsome indeed. We only had time to see the exterior, but it was beautiful. We weren’t disappointed that we’d gone there.

We knew nothing about the Cathedral but impressed by it's Gothic architecture we ventured up the steps and through the doorway. The modest suggested donation of 1 Euro seemed reasonable (Cathedral's back in UK with high entrance charges please note). Inside there was much to...More
