We passed this regularly on the bus as we headed for the Gran Via area. Large main square with a statue of Christopher Columbus and a huge Spanish Flag.

Plaza Colon is not normally much more than a busy traffic interchange however at the moment there is a beautiful albeit man made Xmas tree which is lit blue until 11pm. Very photogenic.

This is a very central nice square where you can take a rest from a day's walk in Madrid. In the middle of the square there is a big statue honoring Christopher Colombus.

Colon is one of the central squares in Madrid. The main attraction is the giant Spanish flag which is in the open area right beside the Biblioteca Nacianal. There is also the statue of Christopher Columbus which stands in the center of the aquare.

Large open space, in between c/ Serrano and Avenida de Recoletos at the beginning of the c/ Goya, on the one side the large monument depicting the trips to the ‘new’ world, on the other side you’ll find down below a theatre.

Plaza Colon is a huge open space and doesn't have much homogeneity. There's great contrast in the buildings which surround the square including the stately old biblioteque, to modern bank buildings and basic looking blocks of flats. Huge flagpole and monument in the centre.

This is another one of Madrid’s many huge plazas. There’s lots of concrete here, fountains, engraved stones, as well as a column with a statue of Columbus on top. The most entertaining thing to do here is to visit the relatively new Platea center.

The Plaza Colon is in the heart of the city and it is one of the largest squares in the city too. The monument to Columbus is beautiful and one can rest in this square and enjoy its space.

Just went out of curiosity, nothing special, a huge flag, a fed modern monuments,a mix of old and new elements, not necessarily a nice assembly. Not impressed.

Busy hustling and bustling place. The column with the statue commemorating Christopher Columbus dominates the square. In the evening, there was an outdoor concert going on. Fun to listen to music and watch the crowd. If you want to dine in a very unconventional and...More
