What a gorgeous way to be introduced to the Old Town! Within minutes of dfter disembarking, we walked down a beautiful pedestrian path (set with blue tiles down the center) which led to the most majestic building as its focal point: The Ministry of Agriculture and Environment. It is a show-stopper.
From this main street, several small narrow Old Town lanes issue forth. Lots of fun opportunities to follow one's nose and poke about a bit.
This is the main street in Cartagena and it is the main retail district. The "calle" is lined with elegant Modernistic buildings and everything looked so clean and well-cared for.

On the main pedestrian street there is a shop called Tedi's - bargain basement stuff but at the back of the shop there's a glass floor and you can see Roman remains.

This smart street is the main shopping area in the city centre and also has lots of bars and restaurants. It is a pleasant place to stroll, or to sit at a pavement cafe with a beer to indulge in a bit of people watching.

Lovely open area a short distance from the port/cruise ship pier. Nice old architecture. The city does seem a little scruffy compared to higher-end Malaga.

This part of the city is beautiful to walk around. There are some lovely turn of the century buildings, in various states of repair! Some are just a facade now and others are gorgeously intact and there is also some fabulous street art. Plenty of cafes give the opportunity to pause and absorb the area before moving on.

I enjoyed walking the busy Calle Mayor, a street that links the Plaza de San Sebastian in the north with Cartagena’s town hall. The street is a “ravine-like pedestrian street paved with distinctive blue marble tiles” that runs from the cruise port past the Roman Theater and the Church of Santa Domingo. It is a typical Spanish “Paseo” where friends, families and couples take strolls together to enjoy their free time and it is where we began our walk.

This Calle Mayor is pedestrianised and is a lovely place for a stroll. Plenty of little shops, cafes, restaurants and tapas bars. There is so much beautiful architecture.

Hi we are visiting Cartegena on Sunday 4th Sept and was wondering if the Roman Theatre Museum is open on a Sunday, also is it easy to find, could you please send me directions of how to walk there from the Port, we are only in Cartagena for 7 hours so thought we would see the Museum and walk around the streets, is there anything else you could recommend that is really worthwhile seeing in such a short time, I would really appreciate your help, thanks so much : ) : ) : )

When you walk from the ship you see a very large bronze sculpture of a man. At that point there is a pedestrian crossing.
This takes you along a walkway and within 100 meters the entrance to the Roman Ruins is on your right. Look on the web for opening times, your shore excursions may give info as well.If you continue on the same route you enter the Calle Mayor which is full of shops and restaurants. Cartagena is a fantastic port, I cruise the world and still think that it is one of the best!!
