Gran Sasso is the highest peak in the Appenne range of mountains. You can ascend to about 2100m via a gondola to an area that looks like it would be popular with skiers and snowboarders in the winter. Amazingly numerous people seemed to have driven...More

As a World War 2 History Buff, this is a must see. The weather the day we went were high winds and snow. The cable car was swaying due to the high winds and if you are afraid of heights, this is not the place...More

We took the cable car from Fonte Cearreto up to the hotel where Mussolini was held by the Italians and was "rescued" by the Germans. The hotel is faded glory and in need of some TLC but it is still worth a wander round as...More

The Gran Sasso national park offers trails for walking, biking or horse riding. The views are fantastic and it's all so easy to access. We drove to the ski resort of Prati di Tivo and parked near the main square. It was Sunday but most...More

Gran Sasso park is great for hiking and outdoor sports on every level. Only thing thats difficult, is finding information in other languages than italian. The hotel at campo imperatore is a good starting point for many nice hikes, including the 2912 m corno grande

Due to Umbria's status as a guide-book destination, the Monti Sibillini park there is better known. But during many seasons Gran Sasso park in the province of Abruzzo has more flowers in bloom and, almost always, far fewer tourists. Enjoy it all to yourself.

Visited with friends and did a couple of hikes over 2 days. Amazing plateaus and mountains. Well trodden trails mostly but a good map essential. We were out of season ( End Sept) so mountain cafes were closed. Beautiful scenery, well worth a visit.

We visited the ski resort on Gran Sasso with family on our visit in April. We took the ski lift to the top, and even though it was spring, people were still skiing, and the snow was abundant. Of course, being tourists, we went in...More

Really enjoyed both the journey to/from Gran Sasso and the experience of walking there. The wild flowers were so beautiful, all in flower at the same time, I feel privileged to have had the good fortune to visit at this time. When thinking to go...More

Hi, I was wondering if it is possible to rent a bike (road bike) in Gran Sasso park. If yes, how does it work (ie. should we reserve prior to arrival? Where is it available in the park?...). Thank you in advance!!
