Where do I even start? Just back from this piece of heaven on earth. Lovely, friendly, helpful people, in spite of the losses of covid years in a place where the economy revolves around tourism. People were immensely grateful for the tips even when it wasn’t much because we were low on cash. Please do yourself a favour and go, you won’t regret it 🙂

What a breathtaking place to visit! My wife and I visited the Amalfi Coast in November of 2022 and had an unforgetable experience there! There is a sweeping coastline where the gentle azure/seagreen waters lap up against very steep cliffs for a wonderful panorama. In the distance, Mt. Vesuvius sits quietly brooding in the distance. Our recommendation is to get a knowledgeable driver to get the full experience. We were very fortunate to have met Massimo Arpino, NCC driver in Rome. He drove us to the Coast from Rome and took us straight to all the best vantage points and was able to get us up to the summit and down to the water very quickly. We would also recommend that you combine the Coast with a visit to Pompeii which is not far away.

My husband and I enjoyed a most memorable tour to the Amalfi Coast via Napoli port in August of this year. We used Angela Grimaldi Tours for a private 8-hour tour. Ciro was our driver. He was professional, experienced, and spoke good English. He picked us up from the port and drove us to Ravello, Amalfi, and Positano. He gave interesting commentaries along the way. He drove a new, full-size Mercedes van for just the two of us. The vehicle was clean inside and out. AC worked beautifully on a warm summer day. He drove us back to our cruise ship on time for us to board the ship. It was a relaxing, hassle-free, and most enjoyable experience for us. We highly recommend using Ciro for your Amalfi Coast tour.

Post COVID, Amalfi is no longer a trustworthy place to visit. Everything is over-priced, restaurants and shops have become so unscrupulous. In their desire to cover their years of losses...they have become dishonest in their dealings. Would caution people to think twice people travelling there now. There are other places in the world where people still have some conscience left despite hard-times. Amalfi is all about milking the tourist and i don't think it's as great as it used to be. Ps, these guys will 'demand' a tip from tourist in a harsh and rude way...so be careful. Tourist are their ticket to post covid recovery.

Just returned from a visit to Amalfi and really enjoyed this beautiful area. A visit here is a must if you are in the area. The church here is stunning and very peaceful.

The most quaint romantic trip ever. Beautiful beaches, lovely people and culture, delicious food. Exceeded my expectations! Lots of sea glass and sea pottery for those who collect!

The Amalfi Coast is truly a great place to be, either staying or visiting.
My wife and I visited with Shore Excursions tour company for the day and it was a picture opportunity at every turn. The locals are very pleasant and although it is about the tourist dollars we had a great time.
Not sure I have a clue why they decided to build their houses on the cliff sides but it is very pretty.

Beware! Counterfeiting the Euro is a problem for banks in Italy, and they will not exchange euro for euro if you want smaller notes. They call it Black Money. Hotels do not want to exchange either. The EU is starting a new printing process, adding a polymer coating to the notes. Use your credit card.
Almafi is worth a one time visit along with Capri and Positano.

For me it is overrated. Too crowded, too pricey, no parking, no walking. The best way to see the Amalfi Coast is by boat or with a trip( minibus MAX), that can drop you off at the nearest to the center parking. Otherwise you have to struggle with parking, not closer than 1 km from each center.
Positano- too crowded, just touristic shops. Awful beach
Amalfi- beautiful Cathedral. Touristic shops, and lemon sorbet. Awful beach.
Sorrento- good for a walk
Ravello- amazing views and Villa Rufolo
As I have seen Cliffs of Mojer, CA1, Scotland- Sorry Amalfi Coast..,🤷♀️

The coast is beautiful but vastly overrated and overpriced.
If you want to have a beach vacation this is not a place to go. There are much cheaper and more beautiful beaches in other European countries.
In Ravello, in one spot they asked 10.00 euros per hour of parking. In another, the spots were so tight that it took my husband 15 minutes to exit the lot (it actually would not have been possible to exit if another driver had not shown up and moved his car). We then had to pay extra due to taking that much time to exit.
It felt that people were robbing us.
And amount of garbage everywhere is beyond belief (except in places where prices are exorbitant. I guess there someone cleans it up).It seems that people are regularly throwing things out through car windows.

Great idea to go to Salerno from Rome then take a ferry to Amalfi. The only question is if we stay in Amalfi which is a beautiful small town for 4 nights is there enough great restaurants there for us?
Thanks

Hello,
If you are looking for information about a place (like the town of Amalfi) put the town name in "Trip Advisor" and check out the information on restaurants. Looks good to me !
My previous advice was about Sorrento and the busses from Rome. I assume that there are other busses going to Solerno.
Keep your eye on the Covis activity in southern Italy & Rome.
Best of luck.

Can I travel from the Amalfi Coast to Positano and Capri? How can I travel to these locations?
Martin Carroll
Winchester, VA654 contributions
Hello,
Let me cover a points first: Covis is still active in Europe. So, check that first. I think that Italy may have some travel guidelines. Guidelines can change at will !!
I never been to Positano. So, I can't help there. I do know that there are large Ferries (that carry cars) that run from Sorento to Capri daily and back on a regular schedule. Sorento is a beautiful town. If you Google "From Sorento to Capri", you will see the Ferry Boats with schedules and fees. If you are driving, you can drive to Sorento. There are busses out of Rome to Sorrento. The busses (other than tour busses) that are allowed take the highways, not the scenic coastal roads.
I hope that this will help you out a little ! Good Luck !!

Hello, planning a honeymoon, incorporating the Amalfi coast, 1st week in September for 5 days. What area is most beautiful, besides Ravello, that is high up on the cliff?

Hello,
The ride along the coastal road is full of stunning views, but the coastal road can be slow going and you can waste time. See the views and move on to other things.
Minori is a beautiful place. and a day trip to Capri is a nice memory. Sorrento is the largest town in the area. Nice place.
I have never been to Positano & Ravello but both look beautiful.
The best method is to look for a base and then go out from there on day trips. Sorrento would be a good base. Probably lots of day trips available.
Best wishes to you.

Buon divertimento.

My husband and I am looking at possibly visiting the Amalfi coast for a week in lat Sept or early October. I've read that this will be off season but it still looks really booked up. We would like to stay in a town that has some bars/restaurants but are not so much fans of bustling city life and would rather a quieter experience with options to see other towns during our stay. Any recommendations ?

Try Ravello, a short distance from Amalfi, up the hill quiet, peaceful and beautiful. Plenty of accommodation 😁

Hi,we are driving from montreal and want to enjoy some maine lobster/clams and sea-nery . Can anyone recommend a beachside hotel in maine, or new hampshire and lobster/clam places to eat in the area? Ideally we want to keep the drive time from montreal under 4.5 hours. Your help is much appreciated, thanks!!

At what times are there busses from Amalfi to Salerno early morning? We need to take a train in Salerno just after 10am and the ferries only leave Amalfi at 9

Hello please check the bus Sita site for schedules. I am sure you will find the time frame, and leave a little earlier as the busses fill up very quick and you may have to take the next one up, as we did.
I've heard that you aren't allowed to drive in certain parts of the Amalfi coast, is this true? I have a rental car and am wondering if there will be a problem. I've read it gets very busy but the towns do have paid parking and garages. I just don't want to break any laws. Can anyone help?

The traffic is pretty slow and clogged along the coast and here is no place to park along the road, although some people do anyway. The center of some towns are for pedestrians only but they usually have public parking lots although they may not be easy to find, or to find an open space. They usually have metered parking, you have to enter your license plate and location number, pay for the hours you intend to be parked there and then leave the ticket on you car where is visible by the traffic patrol.

Buonasera!

Trying to sort out a trip to the Amalfi coast. Never been before so looking for lots of tips. is it better to book a tour package or fly to Naples and self explore ? Would a week be long enough ?
All help appreciated

It all depends how much you want to bother with the traffic, which is horrendous. It took us 2.5 hrs to drive the 40 kms between Pompeii and Sorrento, at night. And about two hours to drive about the same distance to Positano in the morning. Then returning the car at Naples airport was a nightmare, so disorganized and slow, and hard to find.
I agree that Sorrento is a good base from which to explore but if I had to do it all over again (which I will not) I will probably not rent a car and make use of train and boats to explore the area, but even if you are going by bus expect serious delays due to traffic. A week is more than enough.
