Our b&b hosts told us that we shouldn't miss seeing the duomo and they were right. It's absolutely gorgeous - the frescoes are lovely and look brilliant. The crypt is really very impressive. The mosaic floor by the choir is beautiful as are the mosaic columns.

I am a Baptist, and therefore am not overly enamored with Catholic churches. Especially once you've been living in Europe for well over a decade, the general rule of thumb when it comes to Catholic churches is: you've seen one, you've seen them all. This was not the case at all with this amazing Cathedral. Let's put aside the fact... More

I stopped here a few weeks ago during my 2 week stay in Italy in which I visited all of the tombs of the apostles. Finding this cathedral was not easy, parking was difficult and it was not at the location that my iphone gps said it should be. I had to walk a couple of blocks east into town... More

It is a hugely refined cathedral in Romanesque architecture dedicated to Saint Matthew, whose relics are inside the - wonderful - crypt. It is just in the middle of Salerno - The main city (County Town) between the marvellous Amalfi Coast and the pristine Cilento Coast - old town centre which is a well preserved medieval town on the sea... The Steps outside gives it a grand feeling. The Church is quite beautiful from outside and inside. It showcases the magnificent art and craftsmanship of that time. Must see!

It is really a hidden gem, a little bit difficult to find. Was opened in 10th century and it is dedicated to St Mathew whose relics are inside the crypt. It has lots of things to see and the indoors are as amazing as the outdoors.
