There is an excellent temporary chamber exposition showing Vermeer's Young girl with lute in contemporary Italian art context. The permanet exhibitions are also frenetic: for example a fantastic exhibition of Flemish carpets etc., Italian, Spanish, German and French painters. A really must.

We were happy to come to this museum, which is a bit of outside of Naples and therefore there were almost no tourists. However the collection is rich and beautiful, there are many great masters, including Titian, Rafael, Goya and Caravagio. It was a great trip!

Only 10 minutes bus ride from Naples, over a nice hill, surrounded by a luxurious park. The museum is huge!!! Take at least half a day... Raffaello, Tiziano, Caravaggio and hundreds of others!!! Plus a magnificent noble residence, including marvelous rooms, marble everywhere, and breathtaking ceilings. The building itself and the lighting could do better, but perfection doesn't exist!

I thought this museum would be a splendid way to while away an hour or so with a sketchbook. Getting to it though, is something of a roundabout trip across Naples via trains and plenty of serious walking, and it is located in a beautiful park, full of overfed, pampered stray cats, fed by aged Italian ladies, sporting huge sunglasses... The Farnese collection has among the best Rapahel and Tiziano you may see anywhere. You may also wonder how a powerfull a family could be on those times. And with better taste in chosing their painters than some contemporary tycoons tuned into politicians ...

This is obviously a must-see museum in Naples, unless you have no interest in art. When planning a visit, you might want to take into consideration that the extensive and beautiful grounds are also worth some time. When Vermeer's Lady with a Lute is at home in the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, there's likely to be a... More

Badly organised even by Italian standards. Many sections closed. Additionally the guide, map and information provided at the museum were incorrect. Closing time was stated to be 1930 but a whole section was closed off at 5pm.

This is truly a marvelous museum, contained in an 18th Century palace. The amazing array of 13th to 20th Century artwork is displayed over 3 floors. Many ornate rooms of the palace are open and are spectacular, including the Porcelain Parlor. The artwork includes Titian’s Danae, Parmigianino’s Antea, Caravaggio’s The Flagellation and many, many more. Part of the museum is... More
