we fell upon this by chance during a walk. This square is vast, it must be seen to appreciate its awesomeness, the buildings loom, and there are huge statues along the one side which are worth seeing...if your out walking...you must look at this...just beware that if you want a drink in this area you will be vastly overcharged

We have enjoyed the better part of a month vacationing in Italy, the Amalfi Coast is the fifth area we have visited. During our time in this area we opted to spend a Sunday in Naples. During that day we were very impressed by the Royal Palace, less impressed by Naples Underground, and a bit put off by the general... More

Indeed the historic center is very interesting from the point of view of architecture. Howver it looks more like an city that is left to abandon: dirty streets, buildings in almost ruins, motorcycles running around, and restaurants of low service and quality. Having visited many old and medieval cities, the Naples old city is the most depressing one.

Naples does not immediately give one a feeling of safety and assurance due to rubbish, graffiti and a number of people loitering in or near abandoned buildings. Our unease of walking through Naples was replaced with confidence and knowledge after we went on a food walking tour with Giuseppe from Tasting Campania (see photo). Not only did we end the... More

Naples has a reputation for being dangerous and unsafe, and it would be easy to confuse the chaotic daily (and nightly) sights and sounds with a threatening vibe. But don't worry. I didn't find the dark and beating heart of the Naples historic centre to be dangerous or threatening - and certainly no more worrying than any other city centre.... More

Depends where you go of course. The area near Basilica Reale Pontificia San Francesco da Paola and the Pallazzo Reale isn't reallyt the old town, That is up near Chia Jesu Nouvo. A great area to poke around but please expect rubbish and buildings that look as though they haven't had any maintenance since Emma Hamilton lived there

and the "Centro Storico" seems a Saint's Peter church in Rome, but a quite little... I my humble opinion, you must visit the Archaelogical Museum of Naples, where you could see a lot of devices found in Pompei and Herculano.

Naples is a real gem -- lots of old streets, quaint shops, small cafes, restaurants. And people!! Real people in a real, living city. Just wander round and enjoy the sounds and smells.

My children thought this reminded them of Vatican. Such a lovely place and huge space outside in the square. Absolutely no crowd and clean compared to the rest of the city
