Okay, I’ll cut straight to the chase and say out aloud, I do not like waiting in endless lines to enter most of Italy’s important museums. You know the ones; The Vatican Museums, the Uffizi and Accademia in Florence and the Colesseum in Rome can take a lifetime of waiting to enter. And once inside? A slow moving see of wasted faces, contorted bodies pass great works of art, dazed and without the opportunity to linger in front of a piece that captures your attention. Small can be a distinct advantage when it comes to museums. Without the crowds and ever increasing ticket prices to enter, a visit to several of Italy’s lesser known but exciting ‘smaller’ museums can be an exciting breath of fresh air! The Barracco Museum in Rome is exactly this type of museum and it’s a little beauty; a hidden gem in fact. This museum owes its existence to the suburb collection of mostly ancient statues put together by Giovanni Barracco, who was born in 1829. In 1902 Barracco donated his entire collection of sculpture that numbered 200 wonderful pieces, to the City of Rome. In return the city donated a parcel of land to allow the construction of the museum that you can visit today. The Barracco Museum Opening Hours: Tuesday – Sunday (closed Monday) 9am – 7.00pm. The last admission is half an hour before closing time. Ticket cost (at the time of writing) – euros 4.50 or euros 3.50 reduced.

I spent an awesome weekend with the guys from Alternative Rome visiting the most typical restaurants and bars. The one night we finished off at one of the most brilliant night clubs i have ever been to. I did not expect rome to be so much fun. Thanks, Sandro, Gabi and Marco. Their link can be found at alternative-rome.com, check it out!
