After researching a number of walking tours, we decided on doing the Rome at Dusk tour. Our guide, Lauren met us in the lobby of our hotel and for two and a half hours, we meandered around the hidden corners of Rome. We visited the Pantheon and Piazza Navone amongst others. This tour is well worth doing at the start... More

Evan has a breadth and depth of local and historical knowledge that is astounding. From guidance on how and where locals drink coffee to answering our incessant questions about what happened next and why with historical developments, Evan covered it all. Because of his local know how and his ability to quickly assess and prioritize what was of most interest... More

My husband and I booked 2 guided tours with Illuminated tours, both with Evan. One was a 5 hours walking day tour, and the second was a night tour of Rome using a driver and covering more ground. I did homework prior to our visit in late September, we received a recommended itinerary and worked out the best one for... More

While Roman history is a big thing for my husband, it was never one for me. I ran into a great friend at Nordstrom the day before our trip and she emphatically said, "if you are going to Rome, you must, must, must, use a group called Rome Illuminated". To which I replied, "I don't do tours". Nothing terrifies me... More

Rome Illuminated was recommended to us by friends that traveled to Rome in 2015. Our tour guide, Isabella, was wonderful. She met us outside the Vatican shortly before our scheduled tour. Isabella has a great knowledge of the Vatican Museums, Sistine Chapel and St. Peter's Basilica, and the history of Rome. There were only six in our group and we... More

Looking for an easy way to see Rome I found this agency through the internet. Starting corespondance with them I found a very proffetional service, advice, and guidance. Evan is a kind of miracle in his gentle way, Very polite, knows a lot, took us by a Golf Cart through the smallest amazing streets, where cars can not pass, and... More

While in Rome in September, we had Evan as our guide with Giovanni driving. We had an evening tour of Rome in the evening (excellent intro to the city) and the next day we were with them to tour many other sites, including the Colosseum and forum, Trevi Fountain, and the Catacombs, for example. We would do it again and... More

Touring with Evan was amazing, and our best experience during our two week vacation in Italy, Turkey and Greece. Evan made us feel so comfortable during our first ever trip to Europe. He always had us 15 minutes ahead of the crowds. Special early entry to the Vatican because of his connections. Most amazing is his in depth of knowledge... More

Rome Illuminated Guided Tours was recommended to us by several friends in Miami, who had in turn passed the recommendation to other discerning travelers around town. We used them for three different tours (the Vatican, the Coliseum & Forum, and "Underground Rome") and had different guides for each. Each guide was very knowledgeable and very enthusiastic and did a nice... More

We were recommended Rome Illuminated by some family friends. We took a dusk tour through Rome and we added on the Colosseum as an option. We met our tour guide Evan just outside of the Colosseum. Evan made the tour for us. He was extremely friendly and his knowledge on Rome was second to none. It was good to see... More

Staying in Trastevere

Neighbourhood Profile
Trastevere ("beyond the Tiber") is like a faded postcard, a little worn around the edges but still charming. With its wide-open piazzas, meandering streets, weathered Renaissance buildings, and overgrown personality, it's become an irresistible mecca for visitors. Trastevere is an enclave of entertainment - a rotating set of street performers entertains almost every night, and unforgettable eateries and bars pepper its piazzas and side streets. For a trip to the past, visit the southern and western flanks of Trastevere for pockets of yesteryear, less traversed areas with a residual 1960s and 70s Roman vibe.
