Context provides an in-depth alternative to traditional tours. Context's Rome walking seminars are an alternative to typical guided tours. With over 50 different walks led by Ph.D. or MA-level scholars, and with the smallest group size available—only six people. Context is much more than a walking tour of Rome.

I took my 2 nieces aged 11 and 9 on the Ancient Rome and Vatican for Families tours. Jose and Alessandra came well prepared with visual aids and a deep but concise knowledge of where we visited. The kids loved their docents who really made the effort to bond and interact with them. Both managed to capture the imagination and... More

The Ostia Antica tour is a must see if you have an extra day in Rome. Our guide Livia was absolutely amazing. She is an archaeologist who worked at Ostia Antica for 25 years and is passionate about it's history. She brought the city to life for us and her knowledge about the buildings and how the people lived was... More

This was a terrific tour, led by an artful, engaging and warm guide - Sara was high energy and deeply informative, but knew how to be selective - we learned more in the first 20 minutes than we did from months of reading. A terrific way to experience these places for the first time - made them less overwhelming and... More

We used Context for 3 tours in Rome. The guides were PhDs with degrees related to the tour. All 3 guides spoke perfect English. They made the tours interesting, informative, and entertaining. For example, the guide for our tour on the Palatine Hill was an archeologist who had done excavations on that site. Since groups are small (6 was our... More

If you want to see the sights, take the hop on hop off bus. If you want to better understand the world you're traveling in, take a Context Tour. Our docent for St John Lateran was even better than we have come to expect from Context tours. We have found these tours to be a superb value for the time... More

Context Rome tours was recommended by a very well known author, foodie and tour guide in Rome, when she could not herself provide a tour. I booked with Context Rome easily and quickly by email, and 2 weeks later had a superb Roma Antica tour led by Dimo, a PhD archeologist. He was, as would be expected, a font of... More

The directions to the meeting point are very specific and easy to get to via taxi. We met our guide Dimo and did have time to use the "facilities" before we started. There were just six of us on the tour this day so it felt more like a private tour. We were to meet at 8:15am and it is... More

Dimos Kosmopoulos, archaeologist and Context guide, walked us through the fascinating site of Rome's ancient port, and, with his expert narration, made it seem as though it was still a thriving and growing city. Having visited Pompeii and several other remains of ancient Roman cities, we impressed with the vastness of the site and the ability to see from the... More

This review is for two persons out of a group of four total. I have been traveling in Europe for 15 years, never having used a guide and always making the effort to self educate before each trip. However, I have been intrigued by Context Travel and decided to pull the trigger. I am an educated, interested, self confident traveler... More

I found Theresa through journeywoman.ca, a women's travel website. Lucky for me she was available to do a few tours while I was in Rome. Theresa was friendly, knowledgeable and personable. I learned a lot walking around with her. She was always on time, ready to go and up for pretty much anything, even with a baby on the way!... More
