The neighborhood is alive with restaurants, and shops even late at night on the weekends. It;s funky here , no doubt, and reminded me of Greenwich village in New York, back in the day. The center of it all is the Piazza de Santa Maria fountain . Restaurants surround it. Kids gather , street musicians play, performance artists do their... More

Winding Streets. Cheap and delicious restaurants. Unique little shops. Old world charm with a modern East Village NYC vibe. Don't miss this neighborhood.

Loved this neighbourhood...you could use a map but we found following our senses and curiosity got us deep in to the cobbled streets and best cafes. The prices here are cheaper than the main areas and the food is beautiful. Old buildings full of character and not very busy compared to other neighbourhoods. Get wonderfully lost here, you won't regret... More

Our appartment was in this area. Narrow streets, uneven cobbles, peeling paintwork, beautiful churches, eateries every few paces and so lively and vibrant.

Lovely place to wander round the cobbled streets. Lots of small bars and restaurants one after each other. Great place to relax and watch the world go by. A must visit is the oldest church in Rome.

Escape from the hustle and bustle in this very quaint area of Rome. Lots of narrow streets with bars, cafes and pizzerias along with artisan shops and stalls. Meander through the streets at your leisure picking up a beer or coffee en route. Great for food and drinks at very reasonable prices, especially the wine, Montepulciano being a favourite with... Trastevere is so nice and peaceful, with small coffe shops, and great pizza markets. Try also a ice cream on shop with big cornet outside,

Staying in Trastevere

Neighbourhood Profile
Trastevere ("beyond the Tiber") is like a faded postcard, a little worn around the edges but still charming. With its wide-open piazzas, meandering streets, weathered Renaissance buildings, and overgrown personality, it's become an irresistible mecca for visitors. Trastevere is an enclave of entertainment - a rotating set of street performers entertains almost every night, and unforgettable eateries and bars pepper its piazzas and side streets. For a trip to the past, visit the southern and western flanks of Trastevere for pockets of yesteryear, less traversed areas with a residual 1960s and 70s Roman vibe.
