Beautiful area to Walk around.

Very close to the Vatican City and again many crowds but a great place to take in the history ans walk around this lovely area before going onto explore more of the city.

Great place for kids to explore. Wont take hours and hours, nothing to bore them, truly explorable. At the outer ramparts the views to the Vatican City and the Tiber are amazing. Especially end of the day in the receding light. Worth every penny and the cafe is not too expensive bearing in mind it's location. Lovely area to talk... More

Another must see. The castle is huge and very interesting. As you get to the top the views are stunning. A lot of history and the boards tell you as you go around.

We ended up here accidentally after visiting the Vatican City and St Peter's Basilica and I'm so glad we did! Initially, we just took a walk around the castle grounds which were brilliant in themselves but then decided that we'd like to go in and have a proper look. We were not disappointed! Luckily, with us both being under 25... More

Beautiful Castle. Recommend to visit it right after St Peter's Basilica or another Vatican`s historical sites.

Lovely on he outside by the river and row of statues. Did not go inside all the way due to the price as we did not have the money to go but from what we saw it looked a great building with clearly a lot of history behind it. Great to see whilst walking to the Basilica.

The views from the top alone are worth the price! We were walking on a beautiful afternoon in March and happened upon Castel Sant'Angelo. My wife wanted to wait in the line and I was skeptical. The reviews don't do the place justice. I'm so glad she made us stop. The Castel is amazing. You get to walk through a... More

Made this a priority on our 2nd trip to Rome. We went for the drinks and the view based on things we had read, but enjoyed the museum just as much.. and the view yes it was amazing!

I had planned on visiting this site, but never dreamed it was such a spectacular building. Full of history, one is at leisure to explore the whole building. A lovely surprise was the cafe on one of the upper floors with views of the Vatican and the rooftop observatory at the top. Well worth the price of admission!

Staying in Vatican / Borgo

Neighbourhood Profile
Vatican / Borgo
Frocked priests, colorful Swiss Guards, insistent souvenir shop owners, flag-waving tour guides, and pilgrims from around the world. This is the Vatican and Borgo, Rome's most recognized neighbourhood which acts as Vatican City's front yard. Aside from the souvenir boutiques and a few food spots, the only business conducted here is papal. In the daytime, the tiny medieval sector bustles with holy activity, as visitors vie for elbow room, or stand in line for a visit. Once the sun sets, the neighbourhood is transformed into a quiet and picturesque hamlet.
