This was our last "touristy" stop in Rome. We got off the bus two stops too early, but Rome is very walkable, so we just walked the last four blocks or so. This is a Papal Basilica, with amazing architecture and art.

This was one of the highlights of my Rome trip, partly because I was staying at the Hotel Antico Palazzo right across the street. It was not crowded, free of charge and the internal decoration is quite amazing. Most definitely worth a visit.

This is one of the top Basilicas to see in Rome and the line is relatively short to enter. I would recommend going here before St Peters because the two are very different.

The Basilica di Santa Maria is beautiful and thoroughly more authentic than some of the other basilicas in the capital. However, expect some disrespectful tourists as is customary in many holy places that are tourist situations.
