My husband and I planned to go to the catacombs because it was too bloody hot to do anything else. We didn't know that there were several and that some were closed for renovation. Check with your hotel to confirm which ones are open. We...More

We went here by car, and were glad we did because it is off the beaten track and would be a bit of a journey by public transport. There are frequent guided tours in different languages. We had an English tour led very informatively by...More

I took the 30 minute guided tour which was very informative. I joined the German tour, which was relatively small and meant it wasn't very crowded in the narrow spaces. The catacombs are basically empy (no bones) but still tell an interesting story about Roman...More

The tour through the catacombs was informative, and very well run. The catacombs are a great way to escape the oppressive august heat, and hold some amazing pieces of history. Please note that these are a functioning church, and you can even go there to...More

Learned a lot form this tour, you can still faintly smell the sulfur from the volcanic remains underground. The Filipino priest guided our tour, he was very knowledgeable and fun. It lasted about 45mins. They close at 12pm-2pm so make sure to head there either...More

I do not know what I expected, and it definitely was not it, but yet it was not much better. The access is guided, and the tour guides unfortunately clearly come off as if they have done the tour a thousand times already. Do not...More

This was a great, less crowded experience for my family on our recent trip to Rome. The main Rome sights can be a bit crowded and this catacomb trip was a nice afternoon trip. Our tour guide was excellent and we were given an extensive...More

Take the 118 bus (towards Appia/villa Dei Quintili) and get off at Catacombe S.callisto stop. The bus stop is right in between the Colosseo metro stop and the Colosseum.
