We were really excited for this tour, especially with all the good reviews we heard about. We got there and paid and joined the English tour 10 minutes later. We soon realized our guide would rather be dying in the catacombs than giving one more tour. He essentially got mad at us for asking 2 simple questions. We didn't see... More

I think this is the best of all the catacombes. Although the small church of Domini Quo Vadis is just outside the city walls, well before these catacombs, and is said to have an important artifact in the form of a footprint of Christ who met St. Peter who was leaving Rome, the original is said to be the in... Tipping the guide is optional. Tour took us 30 minutes. Our guide was very good & gave us plenty of information about the place. Parts... More

This is a great tour for a hot afternoon. The catacombs are a constant 16 degrees celcius, a nice reprieve from the hot italian sun. Beyond that, the magnitude of the works there are mind boggling. There are many sad stories to ponder, after all this is a giant grave yard, but the history is well worth seeing and learning.... More

Just a short bus ride on the 118 from the colleseum along the Appia Antica this was a great find for our family. Every 20 mins or so a single language tour takes you down into the catacombs and through the myriad of tunnels with tombs cut into the walls in every available space. For me however the highlight was... More

We were in time for the first English guided tour of the day of the Catacombe. The guide was very good and actually appeared to enjoy her job. No pictures are allowed during the tour and the explanation is clear and interesting. You leave knowing the true story of the catacombe system, who used them, and why they were used.... More

We caught the 118 bus from the colosseum for 1.5 euros(buy ticket from metro station before you embark). Bus driver told us where to get off. took about 20mins on bus. Forget the cattle herding you experience in the vatican museums - this is an intimate and atmospheric small group tour- Cost about 8 euros for ticket to catacombe. Worth... More

This interesting place is a bus ride from downtown Rome. It is quiet, tranquil and cool after the hustle and bustle of hot Rome. The catacombs themselves are a series of underground tunnels, the guide is informative and it is an interesting way to spend a few hours in Rome and avoid all the tourist traps.

It was a long drive to see these catacombs but if you have the time (and are able to climb many stairs), you will enjoy the tour. Our guide was good and even though we didn't have a reservation, we got a tour almost immediately.

I always love seeing and hearing the history of Rome. it's amazing to think you are walking on the same rocks and ground that others did 2000 or more years ago. The catacombs provide and amazing view into an underground graveyard along the ancient appian way. It's a required 35 minute guided tour in many languages. Its cool underground so... More
