- KristianRome, Italy9 contributionsAmazing experienceMy girlfreind and I visited this museum and it was amazing. Because we’re under 25 we only paid 2 euros each! The museum contains everything from classical art from Van Gogh, a butchered horse and the story behind J.R.R. Tolkien and his countless collection of stories.Visited January 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten January 18, 2024
- CazzaWestMidsThe Royal Town of Sutton Coldfield, United Kingdom671 contributionsStunning and worth a visitWell worth a visit when in Rome. It is so lovely to get away from the noise and crowds of Rome. Some stunning art to view and a small gift shop and cafe. Free lockers are available for your bags. You will need 1-2 hours to visit.Visited April 2024Travelled with familyWritten April 5, 2024
- Amy O2 contributionsA lovely respite from the crowds! This wonderful museum is an easy walk from central Rome through the Gardens of the Villa Borghese. The pride of lions sprawled on the front steps is your first clue that you have arrived at a special place. In addition to the art gallery, plan to visit the gorgeous restaurant, where the decor brings the green of the park right inside the room. You can get tickets ahead online, but the day we visited there was no line anywhere, and there were plenty of free lockers just inside the door. Have fun!Visited March 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten April 6, 2024

The gallery is easily reached with a short uphill walk through the park from Flaminio metro station. On arrival late morning, we found it quiet, although it grew slightly busier through mid-day. It proved one of our most enjoyable and even liberating experiences in Italy. Rome is crowded with great classical art, most of it crammed into palaces and described in intensive technical detail by captions, catalogues and apps. You interpret the data and move on. This gallery lives for the other half of your brain. Its huge, bright spaces give you space and time. At first, I felt I needed more detail on each piece - its media and context - but the lack of detail on each work is a provocation to create your own stories and connections. The great salon - the first room that you visit - is huge, its walls almost tiled with images from across the last 250 years. Of course there’s too much to take in depth, but you can just revel in the images there. In the other rooms, the thematic organisation is there, but you find it for yourself. Sometimes it’s in-your-face (quite a lot of war and death at the moment), jokey (like the statuary positioned in dialogue with the contemporary art), and cryptic (the wonderful room devoted to de Chirico). It sparks your own creativity, and of course sometimes outrage. Enjoy it. The gallery is exceptional value for the price of the ticket. Of course there are some weak points - catering (as in many of the Rome museums and galleries) was weak, for example, but overall this was a stimulating high-point to our time in Rome. Whatever your view on modern and contemporary art, I’d happily recommend seeking this gallery out - for the sake of half your brain :-)Visited September 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten September 11, 2024

An enormous building housing contemporary & modern art along with some old masters. Easy flow with many rooms. Some paintings are from floor to ceiling. Interesting pop art, sculptures and many pieces made from natural materials evoking much thought, questions and humor. Glad we went.

I may have arrived at the wrong time, but what remains is the emptiness of both the labyrinthine place and the staff who seem extremely bored and with the attitude of those who expect you to already know what you have to do. As an autistic person I found the place confusing and not at all clear. I didn't know where to go or what to do unlike Villa Borghese and Sant'Angelo where all the places were numbered or well explained. I left with a terrible headache due to total confusion. Huge and poorly managed spaces... I had to travel the kilometers to understand where I was and what I had already looked at. Leaving aside the unacceptable horrors that I was unfortunately able to watch, I don't recommend it at all to other neurodivergents like me. They should make these places more comfortable for those with disabilities. I didn't know who I had to show the ticket to and where to do it but then they showed me. Alas, I don't understand the overly "artistic" or detached writing and in the end I had difficulty reading the "ticket" area. It's supposed to be hanging high up somewhere but instead it's all a guessing game... and I can't do anything without directions. Even the hidden lockers, I had to ask just to be sure where the keys were and got an answer always with that "of course" attitude. Maybe I'm interpreting it wrong here, but it's still a huge place, poorly managed and left to chance.
Neurodivergents, I advise you to skip this place. You would leave with a headache and unsurpassable mental tiredness. I'm still suffering the consequences today. Never again.
The only consolations were some works like those of de Chirico, but they did not calm my disorientation.

A good collection of modern art. It touches on most major areas of western modern art. A lovely antidote to all the renaissance art you might be seeing. Both give each other context.
We spent a two hour and that cover the collection.

Awesome gallery! We really appreciated the proactivity of Benedetta who offered to guide us through the exhibition enriching the experience with her knowledge. We wouldn't have had the same experience without her guiding us and explaining the history and details of the pieces exposed. She should be hired straight away!

Amazing gallery full of some amazing art - as well as some massive names. You wouldn't know from the guide books but the gallery contains pieces by Van Gogh, Monet, Cezanne, Miro, Warhol, Kandinsky and many more. Really nicely presented and a lovely way to spend a morning.

I will divide my review:
5* is for my own visit experience. We didn't even plan to visit here, it was lunchtime and the closest place was the cafeteria of this art gallery (will follow) since our next destination was still closed due lunch so we decided to spend 1-2 hours here. In reality I wasn't that enthusiastic to visit (I'm not so modern) but it turned out to be unexpectantly pleasant. Klimt, Cezane, Monet, Van Gogh, Warhol, Miro, Mondriaan, Pollock, Lega, Modigliani, de Chirico and many other interesting ones. There were other quaint exhibits, colorful, it was a thumbs up experience.
3* We lunched at their cafeteria (Caffe delle Arti) before visiting the gallery and we had some sandwiches (just OK) but service was a way snobbish; clientele were mostly socialites and white-collar workers.
2* Was reading the other reviews :( found an article from a local art expert criticsizing how bad the main masterpieces absence were handle, at least a small note apologizing the absence but at this time, hopefully they are back in site now...

I would go first to have lunch in the lovely restaurant and then wander the building, which is as glorious as the works inside. Lots of familiar names and many new Italian talents. It is just a fabulous place, that will continue to get better. It felt good to see contemporary Art after days of "old" works. Just go and be happy there. Afterwards, walk back through the park, which was The Borghese's back yard.

A fantastically nice gallery! The exhibitions are beautifully curated and the building itself is so soft and airy that you almost float around from room to room. Now in October 2023, the museum houses a completely unique collection of sketches and drawings from Picasso. Worth seeing! We walked from the Spanish Steps up through Borghese Park to get to the gallery. It was a nice trip in itself. It was an incredibly nice morning away from the city's noise and crowding, and we are richer for many good art experiences. Recommended!

Beautifully exhibited, large rooms, with a number of well known artworks.
The mix between modern and ancient art is most intriguing, and the creative and open-minded, free way the artworks are portrayed in reflects the approach needed to best connect to contemporary art.
An absolute pleasure to visit.

Is is it best to get tickets online or are there long lines at gallery ?

I came in April of 2019. I just walked in and got my ticket. There was no lines, no waiting. I don't think you need to book tickets online. You can keep your schedule flexible that way.
