- greektraveller13Cardiff, United Kingdom260 contributionsWhat was the centre of the Roman Empire and you can see what stunning buildings used to existIt is amazing to see what the original Rome would have been like. The arches with all of the details on them are stunning. It is amazing to see what everything would have looked like with the different Emperors. They are still excavating things and they are finding more and more as time goes on. It is certainly worth visiting to get an idea of how things were in Imperial timesVisited September 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten October 6, 2023
- Emma SBasildon, United Kingdom200 contributionsNice to walk aboutIf you visit the colosseum you entry is included and you can go the next day or the next. Take plenty of water and walking boots. We arrived at sunset so got some great photos but was forced to vacate pretty sharpish once it closed!Visited October 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten October 15, 2023
- RazorfishLittle Rock, Arkansas5,287 contributionsThe Forum was the living room of ancient RomeMy wife and I got the combination ticket of the Forum with the Colosseum and Palatine Hill. We had a guide which was indispensable in understanding the history of the area. As Bob Dylan said, “the streets of Rome are filled with rubble, ancient footprints are everywhere.”Visited November 2022Travelled as a coupleWritten October 28, 2023
- G M43 contributionsRoman Forum and Palatine HillStaff at entrance friendly, very straight forward at the entrance, we went after our visit to the Colosseum. Headed for Palatine Hill first, great views over the Forum, it was quite special to see. Main negative was once again the facilities - toilets terrible, no soap or toilet paper, broken doors. Also in the Forum the vending machines took our money, no staff anywhere to be seen to help and there had the same experience.Visited November 2023Travelled with familyWritten November 3, 2023
- sashakeenaVancouver, Canada11,837 contributionsHistory of the Ages!Took a tour to see this Historic Site and was not disappointed! Amazing to see the structures what the Roman’s were able to build so many years ago! Hard to believe that you’re able to see so much history in this space? Recommend going with a tour & take water to stay hydrated during the warm temperatures.Visited September 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten November 9, 2023
- Timothy MSan Francisco, California293 contributionsInteresting historical site.A visit to the Roman Forum is a must see on your first visit to Rome. There is an admission fee and lines can be rather long. There are two different entry points. Very impressive ruins of the forum. However it takes some imagination to visualize how the forum appeared at it’s height.Visited November 2023Travelled with friendsWritten November 14, 2023
- Jim W.Atlanta, Georgia1,314 contributionsAnother must-see spot in RomeThere are multiple gates where you can enter the Forum. The one closest to the Colosseum is the busiest. If you enter there and have a pre-booked ticket (very advisable), walk nest to the big line but on its right side. This line is for those who do not have tickets. When you reach the head of the line, you'll see a mostly empty checkpoint for those with tickets. If you view the Colosseum entrance as 6 p.m. on a clock face, we exited at 3 p.m. and saw no lines there. You may want to check that out (or one of the other entry points) to shorten your wait if you lack tickets. Doing a little reading in advance will definitely enhance your enjoyment of this site. What you'll see is largely a set of monuments and ruins. However, with a little context, it is easier to appreciate why this is an important place. Basically, this was the nexus of important historical events in Rome for over 500 years. Every major figure in Roman history from ~ 300 BC to 300 AD spent time here, rallied supporters here, and in some cases was killed nearby. The site of Julius Caesar's cremation is preserved here. There are triumphal arches, the ruins of early temples, the ruins of great public buildings, etc. Just wander through and read the signs explaining the significance of each plot within the site. The flow of historical figures and events is staggering. This was an amazing place.Visited November 2023Travelled with familyWritten November 21, 2023
- Nicholas WColchester, United Kingdom60 contributionsUse the second entrance to avoid queuesWide ranging area that requires sturdy walking shoes to access the whole site. Good views at the top of Palentine Hill over the Coliseum. One important point to make, everyone appears to use the entrance nearer the Coliseum which builds up long queues. If you walk round the corner towards the Circus Maximus, you can enter through a second checkpoint which had no queue whatsoever.Visited November 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten November 30, 2023
- MianLondon, United Kingdom6 contributionsTruly monumental experienceVast in size and grand in scale, the Forum is a magnificent sight to behold. Everywhere you look, you'll find evidence of the great Roman Empire - from the ruins of temples and basilicas to the grand columns of the Arch of Titus. It's a must-see for anyone visiting Rome, as it's a great way to appreciate the city's rich history and culture.Visited December 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten December 6, 2023

... be aware it is really badly organised, so don't do it on yourself, take a guided tour with skip the line. If you don't you will have to queue for an hour minimum due to security checks, then you can buy a ticket for Forum Romanum und Colosseum, which means after you visited the Colosseum you leave it, go to the Forum Romanum directly next door and spend another hour or more for the next security check. No skip the line here without guide though.
TIP: make sure you have no bigger bags with you as they'll just send you away after queuing for hours. There is no place to store your luggage !!!
SKIP THE LINE: you can book skip the line tickets even with Google, but there are certain entry time so make sure you do that on advance.

Ticket €20 per person for colosseum & Roman forum bought online.
There was quite a queue to get into the Forum but the queue was fairly quick moving as it was only for the metal detectors.
The structures & ruins inside are impressive but I found there wasn't much information about them if you didn't purchase the audio guide or a guided tour which was frustrating for me.
Loved seeing the the ruins, they were really incredible. Thoroughly enjoyed!

It is simply amazing to walk through this large outdoor space. It is filled with ruins of former temples, basilicas, and arches. It is, like so much of Rome, massively crowded from late morning to afternoon. I recommend visiting in the late afternoon, as most tour buses will have departed.

I loved it!!!! i went after my visit of the colosseum, and i could spend hours there. You can enjoy the beautiful view of Rome ancient and contemporary, there is a beautiful garden and fontana in the area, i spent about 2 hours and after this i felt very calm and relaxed, its like taking a break from the everyday life. I would avoid going on a Sunday because its free for the public and there is a huge line and many people that are always in the way, also the ticket for weekdays is 16 euros for colosseum and the roman forum.

After seeing colosseum and how well it's preserved, similar expectations were placed on Roman forum. However, it's not the case, as almost everything is in rumbles. It offers a nice walk if you include the palatine hill as well and once you have the combined ticket for the 3 sites, then you might as well come here. On the free sunday get your colosseum ticket at the entrance here as the lines are muuuuuuch shorter. In our case, the colosseum line was easily a couple of hours long, while at the entrance here there were 5 people in front of us in the morning.

It was as good as ever. Though we would have been happier coming earlier like last year at 830 am to avoid the hottest time of day. Then come back again in early evening. Opening at 1030 am this year made it harder for all to enjoy. Especially important during the heat of the summer

Overwhelming (in a good way) collection of ruins (and ongoing excavations) that are part of some of the most important times in history. Seeing the remains of government buildings, temples, churches, burial sites and roads is incredible, especially to think who walked/worked/lived here. The fact that this entire area was once a swamp and the Romans (almost 3,000 years ago) had the sense and ingenuity to be able to drain the area via a massive sewer system is on par with the Egyptians ability to built the pyramids. I did not go with a guide and found that the strategically placed informative plaques were sufficient. Lots of walking up and down uneven steps and over rough surfaces.

You get this ticket, the palitine hill and Coliseum at the same time. Dont waist your time with the tour get the tickets online or at the kiosk infront of the Coliseum and use the city pass on your phone to download the tour take you own headphones, skip the line and save the cash. The site itself is amazing a must see.

An excellent site, however it is unfortunately marred by the visitor experience being unworthy of such a gem.
There's a lot to see, but be aware that visitor interpretation on site is poor.
They may publish a closing time of 16.30 and you might budget your time to get round the site based on that information but be warned... the staff would seem to wish to go home at exactly that time, so will start closing off sections of the site and sweeping visitors toward the exit 45 minutes before, telling you that the site is closing by 16.15, but because there are a lot of people in the archaeological park (hardly any one visitor's fault - and let's face it, when is it not busy) they have to start pushing people out well before the published time, being prepared to lie about the true closing time to get you out.
Apparently in March they move the closing time later due to longer daylight, but this doesn't happen till then. So if you go in February especially to avoid summer crowds, be aware of the closing time being an hour before sunset- and be warned that what time they publish they close is not what time you have.

I can't believe I'm saying anything is average, but over saturation does that! Everything in Rome seems to be historic; however, I wouldn't miss this site. Everything started running together so I don't think I've given it justice. I would suggest downloading Rick Steves' audio guide and listen prior then fast forward and listen while walking - perhaps an audio phone if available. It comes with Colosseum and Palatine Hill ticket; I'll give it #3 place. The line seemed very unorganized and crowded; the security folks were not especially patient, which is frustrating with all the crowds. It would be a nightmare later in the year, with crowds, heat and humidity. #1 criteria - is there a WC ... yes, but there are more options at Palatine Hill.

Should i visit the Colosseum, the Roman Forum or Palatine Hill first? Which order do you reccomend?
Written August 30, 2019
No specific order as such. Roman Forum is in Palatine hill - these both go together. You can plan based on your time. We did colosseum first and these later.

Hello everyone. I just want to see the Forum and the Palatine Hill. I've heard there is less crowd at the ticket office for the forum, which I plan to visit at 14.30 on Friday. How long do you think I would wait and do you think it's a feasible plan? Many thanks in advance.

Hi. I visited the roman forum this month and queued for around 30 minutes from 12:00. I suggest going before midday if you want tickets that include the colosseum as these run out quickly, but as you just want to see the forum this should be no problem. Hope this helped, and have fun!
Written August 19, 2019
We just want to tour the Forum and Palantine Hill. Is this ticket available online, if not-I heard there is an entrance somewhere else where the queue is very insignificant compared to the other locations? About how long are the lines to get into just the Forum?
Written July 25, 2019
When we went last month, the Forum and Palatine Hill didn't really get crowded until around noon. Most of the long lines in the morning were to be found over at the Colosseum. I think that if you were to go directly to Forum and Palatine Hill around the time they open in the morning (0830 hours), you won't have a problem. Going in the morning is a good idea also because it's cooler. In the summer months, it really heats up during the day, and there isn't a lot of shade in that area.

I am visiting Rome in July, and want to visit the Forum. All the timed tickets for the Colosseum for our dates are now sold out in the Co-op site. We don’t want to do a guided tour.
We don’t mind missing the Colloseum as we’ve been before but We really want to see the Forum. Is it still possible to buy tickets on the day for the Forum? And would we need to be there early to get them?
Thank you.
Written June 27, 2019
Hi
When we were there in May there were a lot of people selling tickets with their tours to both at the entrance around the Colosseum. We had prepurchased entry tickets, but did book a tour to go with the entrance tickets.
Our ticket included Mamertine Prison, Forum and Pallatine Hill which was very cheap - prepurchased. If you try to buy this kind of ticket, try to book in advance, but I also think you can do so at the Mamertine Prison, get there ready for opening time, and there will likely be less of a queue as it is quieter, however there are less likely to be touts selling tickets there if there are none left.
Remember we were there in May, so likely very different to peak season.
I would say also that we found the guided tour of the Forum incredible and well worth it - unless you have extensive knowledge of everything yourself, the signage and information at the site is very very limited, and we would have had no idea. Also in the heat to have someone focussing on key stories and sites is helpful to avoid wandering around aimlessly getting hot. If you did a tour, you could spend the rest of the day wandering and exploring on your own, which is what we did do. tiqets

Salve, siccome parliamo di luoghi di un certo valore ed essendo molto gettonati nelle domeniche in cui la visita è gratuita, consiglio di presentarsi un 45 minuti prima 😉
