Only a few stolen views through a fence are available. If this would be the only reason you head to this area, check and make sure the renovation is completed first.

Forming the centre of a fascistic styled square, the Mausoleum of Augustus still stands above all else. It is not the size which is imposing, but the thought of touching, seeing and experiencing early Roman Imperial history. For the mausoleum, architecturally inspired by the traditional...More

While it's certainly a thrill to be standing in the original burial spot for Augustus, it is currently fenced off and only partially visible from the streets around the Mausoleum.

This is the mausoleum of Emperor Augustus, at the moment there is a reconstruction. It is opposite the Ara Pacis Museum. It looks quite interesting outside.

This is the mausoleum of Augustus and it has been allowed to fall into disrepair. When we visited the site was covered in hoarding as the restoration work has started and there wasn't much to see.

Campo Marzio
From its original role as ancient army training fields
to its present-day identity as one of the city’s most
desirable neighbourhoods, the Campo Marzio is the best
place to get lost in Rome. Gorgeous Renaissance and
Baroque palazzos line the streets, and are filled with
enticing boutiques and food shops. By day, Rome’s
best-dressed denizens criss-cross its streets in a
fashionable parade of errands, occasionally pausing to
