Top ways to experience Piazza della Rotonda
The area
Address
Neighbourhood: Navona / Pantheon / Campo de’ Fiori
With three of Rome’s most beloved piazzas within a five-minute walk of each other, the Navona/Pantheon/Campo area may be the prettiest and most picturesque area of the city. Join the beautiful throngs hanging out in cafes, boutiques, art galleries, and wine bars, or peek at a neighbourhood museum or monument. If you want nonstop movida, the streets here are busy with chic bicyclists and Vespa drivers, street vendors, merchants, and locals. There is no rhyme or reason to its winding streets and there's something to see around every corner, so take pleasure in a spontaneous wander.

Picturesque
Feb. 2020
This is one of the picturesque spots in Rome, where perfectly made sculptures, a fountain, and an Egyptian obelisk are all at the front of Pantheon gate and the pillars.

Very famous landmark
Jun. 2020 • Friends
The name of the square derives from the famous circular monument that characterizes it, the Pantheon.
The square housed a marketplace since the Middle Ages, when it was unpaved and in poor hygienic conditions: the mass of debris left by the stalls caused a rise in the ground and a difference in height with the Pantheon.
In the center of the square is the Renaissance fountain designed around 1575 by Giacomo Della Porta.
On the right of the square, where Via del Pantheon begins, there is the fifteenth-century Albergo del Sole, one of the oldest in the city: the first records date back to 1467, even though it was then called "Locanda del Montone" (a name it kept until 1613 ) and the entrance was on Via degli Orfani.
This hotel housed the Italian poet Ludovico Ariosto, best known as the author of the romance epic "Orlando Furioso" (1516) and the opera composer Pietro Mascagni: two plaques placed on the of façade of the building remember these two famous artists.
It's a famous Roman landmark.

Majestic!!!

Piazza della Rotonda is a beautiful square where you find Pantheon. For this reason it’s extremely popular and busy. Pantheon was standing here long before all this and so the square took shape around it. That’s why the piazza gets its name from the Pantheon's informal title as the church of Santa Maria Rotonda. We’ve been here many many times but this last time it was different due to the pandemic so I’m uploading photos without crowds.

Pleasant piazza
Dec. 2019
This piazza is most popular for having the Pantheon in it, but the piazza itself is also a pleasant experience, with a big Egyptian obelisk in it and plenty of restaurants. It's not any fancier or more unique than any other piazza in Rome, but it's a pleasant way to spend some time. Sit at one of the bordering cafés and enjoy some good food.

Our Favorite Piazza in Rome
Aug. 2019
We love the Piazza della Rotunda. Come twilight, it's a magical place to stroll through or relax in. The Pantheon sits there in all its brilliance. Additionally, the Fontana del Pantheon is a wonderful, 16th century fountain.

Make sure to walk the length of the piazza for all the great Pantheon views. You can also fill up your water bottle from a cistern here.

Popular Piazza with Fountain
Jul. 2019
Popular Square in front of the Pantheon. Pretty fountain and obelisk are in the center of the square. This focal point / fountain was first built under Pope Gregory XIII in 1575. The inscription on the current fountain says the fountain was "embellished in 1711 by Supreme Pontiff Clement the Eleventh".

NIce but not unique

Next to the Pantheon so you do your 5-10 minute free walk to take pictures. There are plenty of restaurants nearby so you can enjoy some food which are reasonably priced for lunch.

Busy Pantheon plaza
Feb. 2020 • Friends
Our accommodation was right around the corner from Pantheon and a stones throw from Piazza della Rotonda. This proved extremely beneficial for us in terms of identifying nooks and crannies, side streets and less tourist-dominated restaurants and bars. The Piazza is busy with the masses piling into Pantheon and milling around the fountain. Close by, restaurants like SHARIVARI for lunch and Mr. 100 Tiramisù for desserts are ones to look out for.

Pantheon

While you're heading to the pantheon, take a look around the square - if you can see much of it for the people. Another piazza, another fountain, another column. Except this one has the pantheon too.

In front of Pantheon

Beautiful plaza right in front of and basically looking down on the Pantheon. Tons of restaurants with outdoor seating and a great place to sit and chill
