Neighbourhood: Testaccio
Put the house music on replay and you have Testaccio, an ancient Roman port and former working class neighbourhood where the bass is set to high almost every night of the week. Its collection of discoteche (nightclubs), street parties, and crowded restaurants give it its well-deserved party reputation. During the daytime, Testaccio is more easy listening than club hit, the area is full of locally owned small businesses and has one of the city's larger produce markets.

Colorful, lively market worth a visit
My siblings and my spouse and myself just spent some time in Rome. Among the great things we were able to do was to visit the Market in Testaccio. It is a big, colorful, sometimes loud market with lots of things going on. We were visiting the Market with a friend and his family. He is a chef in Rome and knows almost everyone at the Market so our visit was made even more colorful. We were there after 6:00pm and we were able to eat dishes from various venders that were still open. The Market was packed and there was a live concert going on and lots of people attending the show. Of interest is that the market was recently expanded and some historically significant artifacts were found which are going to be preserved and open to the public for viewing. Near the Market is a "mountain" of clay debris piled up over the ages from clay vessels used to ship many good for consumption in Rome. It is well worth the effort of a visit.

    A must-see in Testaccio. Gorgeous.
If you want to have a complete idea of the Testaccio neighborhood, you can't help but go to the Nuovo Mercato Testaccio. It is located exactly in front of the old Mattatoio (the slaughterhouse). It has recently been renovated according to a minimal and contemporary style, in which the geometric rigor, the white and the clean lines create a pleasant contrast with the colors of the goods. The covered Testaccio local market hosts 100 food stalls including butchers, bakeries and street food products and is a point of reference for food lovers. Walk among the colorful and tidy fruit, bread, meat and fish stalls and take a look at the food kiosks, all very cute and well laid out. Seeing, however, is sometimes not enough. The pleasure of the palate is also important and then perhaps you can stop to taste a sandwich with the famous Roman roasted porchetta. Or, if you prefer, opt for a fresh juice and a slice of pizza. The beauty of this market, historic for the ancient history of the neighborhood despite its new location, lies precisely in combining the old tradition with daring modernity. It is also a place that surprises you with its variety and where you always find clothing, footwear, accessories and all kinds of household items. Conceived according to the scheme of the open-air markets in the squares of Rome - open on all four sides, covered and protected from sun and rain but with transparent and perforated panels through which light and air filter - the architectural project was designed by architect Marco Rietti. highly recommended.

    A must see
This place was pure magic for us: we wanted to spend some time cooking with local ingredients instead of just going to restaurants: this was our gold mine. The vegetables are just inexplicably fresh and tasty; the fresh pastas are to die for…don’t even get me started on the half prepared dishes like artichokes, yumm!! A must see

Cute little market with lots of stalls. Out of the way of Rome's city center but it's a welcome change of pace! We ate at 2 different stalls here and it was some of the best food we had in Rome overall!

We love this market. Every stall has beautiful food and there is a central seating area for eating. We got a couple porchetta sandwiches & a bottle of wine after walking around the market. We walked over to a taxi stand near the pyramid to go back towards our hotel nearCampo de Fiori.

Hunted the market out but wasn’t far from Piramide metro stop. Not sure if it’s COVID related but over half the market is closed. We still grabbed lunch of slow cooked beef sandwiches and arancini with coffee wine and fruit.
