The area
Address
Neighbourhood: Testaccio
Put the house music on replay and you have Testaccio, an ancient Roman port and former working class neighbourhood where the bass is set to high almost every night of the week. Its collection of discoteche (nightclubs), street parties, and crowded restaurants give it its well-deserved party reputation. During the daytime, Testaccio is more easy listening than club hit, the area is full of locally owned small businesses and has one of the city's larger produce markets.

Fabulous market with fresh produce, drinks & freshly cooked foods ranging from seafood, pastas, pizzas, salads, sandwiches & even poké bowls. Friendly and passionate vendors, clean space and fairly priced.

We love this market. Every stall has beautiful food and there is a central seating area for eating. We got a couple porchetta sandwiches & a bottle of wine after walking around the market. We walked over to a taxi stand near the pyramid to go back towards our hotel nearCampo de Fiori.

Hunted the market out but wasn’t far from Piramide metro stop. Not sure if it’s COVID related but over half the market is closed. We still grabbed lunch of slow cooked beef sandwiches and arancini with coffee wine and fruit.

It is a place for shopping, eating, drinking, and culture. Mercato has amazing shops for buying fruits, vegetables, cheese, bread, etc...We found the most amazing pizza seller, it was fantastic with different combinations of toppings.

A Lovely place. We heard it from the locals and we given it a try.. A very nice market that gather everything from street food to quality food, clothes, souvenirs... everything. Prices are good and logical plus you have it all gathered in a place which by the way maybe a market but its closed top so you don't have to worry about the weather. Nice place to shop.

Enjoyed the market though some stalls were closed (Monday am), however had one of the best pizzas ever from Casa Marco’s. Had several different types including a wonderful aubergine one. Also had an unusual pear, cheese and nut one - yummy. Pizzas are sold by weight so you can have a taster of several different types.

This market has mixed reviews, and I undersrtand why; I absolutely loved it, my wife was less keen!
Half the market is nothing special (shoes, textiles etc). as one reviewer has already said, not that diiferent to many UK markets. But the other half, the food half was a great place for lunch, and not something you'll find at home. There's the odd tourist kicking around, but certainly a place the locals love. Wonderful fresh made pasta and a glass of wine for about 7 euros was my choice, but there were plenty of other options. Grab what you want and then grab and table in the middle seating area. Very busy around lunch time, and the Romans don't really go for an orderly queue, but if you like your food and you don't mind a bit of chaos, you'll love it. Looks like it winds down fater lunch, so its and morning or lunch venue only (I think)

Many locals buying meats and vegetables for the upcoming week. Prices seemed to be reasonable.
Most stalls were open on a Saturday morning.
A few restaurants.
One really good pizza place.
It takes 25 minutes from city center, then go do things along the river, like many restaurants and bars

Did get an average pasta at one off the stalls
Not worth the trip about half an hour by bus from Rome

Goedemorgen, het beste is tegen lunchtijd dan is er bedrijvigheid en kun je gelijk iets van het lekker proberen.

Does anyone know if the markets will be opened on 26 December? Unfortunately we're only in Rome from 25 - 27 December, then making our way to Milan.
Thank you!

Hello,
Because 26 December is a considered a holiday, I don’t think the market will be open. I’d go to the website to check but I doubt it as much will be closed here in Rome.
Enjoy your trip!

How to get to market from Coleseum? By bus?

Perhaps the fastest and simplest way is the metro. It's only a few stops on blue line. Get off at Piramide.

If you prefer the scenic route ride any of the buses headed down the Tiber towards Piramide and walk from there.

Buona spesa
