About
Probably the most famous chapel in the world because of its incredible artwork, notably "The Last Judgment," Michelangelo's stunning fresco covering 10,000 square feet of the ceiling and wall.

Neighbourhood: Vatican / Borgo
Frocked priests, colorful Swiss Guards, insistent souvenir shop owners, flag-waving tour guides, and pilgrims from around the world. This is the Vatican and Borgo, Rome's most recognized neighbourhood which acts as Vatican City's front yard. Aside from the souvenir boutiques and a few food spots, the only business conducted here is papal. In the daytime, the tiny medieval sector bustles with holy activity, as visitors vie for elbow room, or stand in line for a visit. Once the sun sets, the neighbourhood is transformed into a quiet and picturesque hamlet.

A must see when in Rome
It’s a must see when in Rome, you can spend as long as you like in there and is breath taking. Very popular so expect crowds but security are good at keeping everyone moving through. Get a pre booked ticket with skip the line.

Buy skip the line .. please don’t queue!
It’s a must to see even though it can be very hot in summer. Buy skip the line tickets.. it’s a must… I felt so bad for the people that were lined up next to the huge stone wall in the blazing sun! Relatively easy to get in much more quickly.. I probably would recommend a guided tour but my teens were having none of it .. will def book a tour next time I come as there’s just so much to see in there! I get that you can’t take pictures in the chapel by the way but found the security in there overly aggressive.. my daughter accidentally had her phone torch on and was accused of taking photos.. once he realised his mistake he said the torch would damage the art… I mean .. come on that’s just silly… they would be benefit from bit of service training I think ..

    Majestic works of art
The Vatican museum is absolutely breathtaking. The works of art and the galleries are very elaborate and require a lot of time to go through. The Sistine Chapel was mind-blowing and I am so grateful to have witnessed the work of Da Vinci. This is a great way to spend the day. Just ensure that you have comfortable shoes and lots of time. I would definitely go back and see more of the museum.

    Spark of Life
Visiting the Sistine Chapel as a Roman Catholic is something different than being a "not so religious" person. When I caught a glimpse on the Michelangelo painting on the ceiling something ran over me. When you see the two hands reaching to each other (God creates Adam or Spark of Life) it is something you will never forget in you whole life.

    Awesome is an understatement
Michelangelo was entrusted with the job of partly altering the decoration. The ceiling, the upper part of the walls, the lunettes were painted to show the stories of Genesis, from the Creation to the Fall of man, to the Flood and the subsequent rebirth of mankind with the family of Noah. Our guide explained us this ceiling so much in detail that when we actually came into this chapel we were in awe with the artist’s work. In this chapel one cannot take pictures and one cannot even talk. So the Chapel had more than 500 people but no one uttered a single word. Sistine Chapel is the pope’s personal place of worship and a highlight of the Vatican trip. We stood beneath Michelangelo’s The Creation of Adam, which cloaks the ceiling. We admired The Last Judgement, Michelangelo’s colorful mural that adorns the wall.

So chaotic and crowded it’s barely worth it.
What can one say? Of course it was amazing. But it was in the words of my wife like “being squeezed through a tube of toothpaste”. It was so crowded and so chaotic that I really have trouble recommending it. Of course, if you’ve never been then yes, suck it up and suffer through it. It’s worth it (l think). But once is plenty.

    Breathtaking
The Vatican Museums and Sistine Chapel are purely breathtaking. You walk through room after room of some of the most amazing artwork in the world. This is a must see if you travel to Rome and make sure to a) buy tickets in advance and b) plan extra time in your day to take it all in. You can rent audioguides from the facility or download one on your phone to help ensure you don’t miss a thing as you tour the facility. There is artwork from Salvador Dali, and more contemporary artists as well! The bad: it is incredibly crowded and there is no AC. The large tour groups seem to create bottlenecks and so we were grateful when we would find a room without any to truly take everything in. Recommendations: watch a YouTube tour of the facility before you get there to give you an idea of what you are seeing, also you have to cover your knees and shoulders and so plan your outfit accordingly.

    No photo here
Look up. Hard to imagine the work until you actually see it. There are benches along both sides that you can grab a seat and just enjoy looking up. Definitely should be on your must do list. They actually have a good picture of the artwork outside before you start the tour.

It's far better than you expect.
Part of the Vatican Museums, the Sistine Chapel is the most famous attraction and definitely worth seeing. The Chapel is huge and the art - not just the famous Adam and God painting - is amazing. It's very crowded and you are not allowed to take pictures inside.

    Most incredible sight I’ve seen
Absolutely breathtaking. Still speechless. Beauty beyond words. We spent more than 3 hours there and could still have spent more. Definitely worth getting a ticket to skip the line. It was so gorgeous inside, would likely recommend a guide as well (audio is great too) as we could’ve learnt so much more as a lot of the artifacts are not described due to tooo many of them. I noticed two people about to take photos were quickly and harshly told photo taking was not allowed. The wall art is immensely detailed and beautiful.

Very very crowded. If you have mobility issues there is a lift but it takes you to the opposite end to where to the start of the visit meaning you are fighting against loads of people. Also the staff question you about why you are going the ‘wrong way’ to everyone else. There are endless souvenir desks. The Sistine Chapel itself is stunning but it’s so crowded and the staff herd you along. Also you can no longer take photos in order to preserve the artwork, including Michelangelo's famous ceiling frescoes, from potential damage caused by camera flashes and the cumulative effects of many visitors taking photos. There is a suggestion as well that during the 1980s the Sistine Chapel underwent a massive renovation project. The Japanese television network Nippon TV offered to fund the renovation in exchange for exclusive photography rights of the chapel art. So apart from the kudos of saying you’ve actually seen it with your own eyes if your budget is tight don’t bother.

Amazing, lots of walking to it (loads of artwork). Tonnes of history. But once you get in cannot be not impressed.

Take your time, dont be rushed.

There is also more artwork, statues, etc as you come out.

Would love to visit again, as there is so much and not just the chapel.

It is busy! and we went when it was quiet apparently.

The chapel, apart from being one of the most beautiful churches in the world, is also home to some of history’s most famous artworks, with Michelangelo’s Last Judgement, The Creation of Adam and Botticelli's Temptation of Christ. But the chapel isn't just of artistic importance - it is the site of the Papal conclave, the process by which a new pope is selected.

A must see to admire Renaissance art.

A place of worship where one should be respectable. You shouldn't wear a hat, not be allowed to photograph. The best part is the work done by Michealangelo.

I was looking forward to being in the Sistine Chapel Paid extra for an early morning visit
It was horrible
The guards yelling and acting aggressive
People in tank tops with selfie sticks
Hundreds of people in a very small hot space
The entire experience was handled horribly
How about the people working there just shut up and physically remove the imbeciles who have no respect
Don’t waste your time here until they figure out how to deal with the crowds
Unbelievable

We used brastours and had an absolutely great experience with Teresa. She was knowledgeable and was able to fill time when there were small backups within the Vatican or Sistine chapel. I highly recommend you book a tour because the line outside the Vatican can be our long. Skip the line and having Theresa give you a tour, top-notch

The Sistine Chapel is what some consider the crown jewel of the Vatican Museum. This is where you find Michelangelo's famous Last Judgement as well as works by the likes of Perugino, Botticelli, Ghirlandaio and Rosselli, adorning the north, south and entrance walls as well as the remarkable Stories of Genesis ceiling panel frescos.

Note that this is a place of silence so no speaking or photo taking while you are in the chapel. It can be very crowded as well so try to find a seat along the walls so you can sit and look up at the opposite wall frescos as well as the ceiling panels above you.

Although we are not religious we were very impressed with the beauty of all the art work…sculptures, tapestries, paintings, etc. It was worth the $ going on a tour to get in the museum quicker and being shown the highlights. The museum only allows so many people from the non-tour line every 15 minutes. We arrived at the museum at 7 am and there was a pretty long line already forming.

The Sistine Chapel access was part of a ECOART Museum tour which was 2.5 hours of outstandingly informative tour I'm Vatican City. The Chapel itself is Holy and is supposed to have quiet reverence. However since the throng of people are all cramming in and looking up the Protots inside are loudly direction and organizing visitors to seats and towards the inside of the Chapel. Nonetheless a spectacular view and made moreso by the cleaning of the ceiling of which you can see a portion of untouched ceiling at one corner. Great tour led by Oscar into one of the most Holy sites in the Western hemisphere. Thank you.
