I will not disparage the Vatican but I cannot help but question the impact of so many people trying to tour anything. If the crowds in Siena and Florence were large the number of people touring the Vatican was intimidating . We opted to secure...More

We booked an early entrance, skip the line visit to the Vatican Museum and Sistine Chapel. This meant walking across Rome before sunrise, getting a croissant and coffee along the way and meeting the organisers ‘on the steps’ opposite the entrance. We were taken across...More

The vatican is huge so allow plenty time. I went on an early morning tour and the corridors were almost free of tourists giving good full views of displays. Went back in the afternoon and it was sooo packed it was just uncomfortable.

The Vatican was full of Greek, Roman and Christian artifacts. A walking tour in the morning before it opens to the public is well worth it. The shops inside where nuns sell their rosaries etc are not too badly priced. We were fortunate that we...More

Normally something I would enjoy was completely marred by the heat and crowds. First of all, spend the money and fast track your way in. You could be waiting hours before going in. On entering the unexpectedly modern entrance, be prepared for a lot of...More

Read about what is there to see and why you would want to see that. If you still want to go i advise to go as early as possible in the morning. A skip the line ticket works very well but once you are inside...More

Even doing a pre-arranged tour of these museums with a guide (there were 22 in our group), this is a crowded experience. Lots and lots of people and you shuffle along and slowly go up packed staircases to get from one place to another. But...More

Amazing history, stunning pieces, wonderful museums. However a seriously worried that the management of crowd dynamics fall far below an acceptable standard. At times I saw worried faces of people clearly anxious. Pressure points in long confined corridors and steps. 20k people through per day,...More

Our family (with young children) visited the museum and Sistine Chapel. We are amazed with the museum collection. The building and display were beautiful. Our kids specially fond of the round stairs. However, it was to crowded and the very long line of queues in...More

I was on a group tour of the Vatican. Larger groups get priority over individuals. It is a busy place; no getting around quickly.
