Beautiful!

We were both delighted and saddened while viewing the Pieta. Delighted due to the sculptures beauty, saddened by remembering the whacko who damaged the sculpture years ago.

Happy to have seen this though it was a little dark. It was my 2nd time to go to the Basilica but I don't remember seeing this during my first visit. Happy to finally see this in person!

On previous visits, it seemed we were able to get fairly close to this wonderful work of art. Now, visitors are held back many meters, and the sculpture is behind glass. I suppose security dictates this, but what a disappointment. The best way of viewing it is now through the telephoto lens of a cameras. Photos are allowed. But I... More

There is a glass wall separating the art and.. The crowd but there is no story why and it is worth to know. In 1972 some crazy shoemaker was trying to destroy the sculptore with the hammer .

The hole basicila di San Pietro is something magic, unusual, captivating. You are going through it and feel like some sort of esence are going through you, you feel so joyful while walking there and La Pieta is like cherry on top, magnificient sculpture, one of most recognized piece of art in the World

After being wowed by the painting on the Sistine Chapel ceiling, experience the genius of Michelangelo as a sculptor, probably his greatest skill. Protected by glass after being attacked, this piece rivals David in Florence.

Seeing pictures of La Pieta provides little preparation for seeing it in person. The work is simply moving. It has been placed behind bullet proof glass because of prior attacks on this masterpiece, but that does not detract from its beauty or historical significance. A must see when at the Vatican

My wife and I were very fortunate and saw the sculpture with very few people there. It is unfortunate that it is behind a glass panel but better that than someone else attacking it again! If you can look past all the selfie sticks in the air you might be able to appreciate the intricate nooks and crannies and the... More

An amazing marble sculpture done by Michel Angelo of Mother Mary carrying Jesus after his crucifixion. Glad to have seen such a world famous sculpture though I'm not a Catholic. One cannot miss it on a tour of St. Peters Basilica.
