The most beautiful work inside St. Peter's Cathedral is Michelangelo's famous La Pietà, considered by many to be the most moving piece of sculpture ever created.

We have all seen the pictures but never moved as much as I was to see this masterpiece in person (though further behind glass than I expected).

This is interesting because of the genius who created the masterpiece. But it is also because of the backstory. Michelangelo waited 8 months in the marble quarry rejecting all slabs until he found the right one. He then spent 2 years carving. A single piece...More

Once onside the world's biggest Basilica, after taking the view of the whole edifice in front, first turn right. Fenced with glass you'll see magnificent Michelangelo's masterpiece made from a single piece of marble, the Pieta. It is so detailed it looks alive.

Just the most beautiful sculpture in the world. Little more need be said. A shame that a lunatic tried to destroy it thus now limiting our ability to admire the whole thing.

Inside of St Peter's Basilica this amazing sculpture by Michelangelo is stunning. It's incredible to think about how he managed to complete such an amazing sculpture and is to be seen to be truly admired.
