Raffaello was born and living in Urbino. There is a home museum locating almost straight when you come from the bus station. Many places in Urbino are dedicated to him from restaurants to this statue.

The monument to Rafaello is located at the top of via Raffaello in Piazza Roma.
It was made by the sculptor Luigi Belli in 1897. Earlier it was placed in Piazza Duca Federico in front of the entrance to the Ducal Palace. Then in 1947 duke of Montefeltro and most famous son of Urbino were divided and monument was moved to its current place.

If it is a hot day and you feel exausted and want to relax a bit but the sun is still shining high,..... this is the freshest place in Urbino. Nice views and slightly windy. Not a great and monumental square, rather a place where families and elderly people meet.

At the end of Via Raphael, passing through the gate, straight ahead you will see the statue of Raphael. This area is a nice quiet park with plenty of benches, with great views and lots of shade. An ideal spot to bring a bottle of wine, some cheese, meats and bread to have a nice relaxing picinic in a very beautiful spot.

Raphael, the most important person of Urbino together with Federico da Montefeltro. This statue it's located at the top of "Via Raffaello", a very steep way, but once there, you get to relax in the park situated at the feet of the statue and Albornoz's fortress.

When you finally arrive at the top of the hill and pass by the university, the duke's castle and the churches you see a sculpture of the artist. It looks exactly as you would imagine he is.

When you pass it, it is an ok quiet park with a ugly statue, but still a nice place. However it is not worth the crazy climb from downtown.

This is probably my favorite place here in Urbino. Its so beautiful in the summer and close to a restaurant, café and bar. I think it is a must see. Rafaello is one of my favorite artists and being in the city he lived in was an awe moment

Fortunately, we arrived at the Statue by car and it is quite an impressive sight (check out my photos).

The attraction is located just outside the walls of Urbino at Porte del Monte.

Whilst I really love the Statue the surrounding area could be greatly improved by the local Comune (Council). In the small park there is a sign indicating that there is a panoramic view but when you walk there you find that the view is blocked by the trees, which are not cared for by the Comune.

With a much improved park layout, better manicured green areas and unblocked views over the countryside this would improve the enjoyment to the visitor.
