Big park and the best feature is the elevated position and the beautiful staircase that access it.
Nice little features inside (a fountain) and beautiful trees.
The most important lesson is that refuses can create something useful!!!

Avoid this park. Especially when its dark: full of drug dealers... I live in Bologna and I NEVER set foot in this park

Our family of 5 decided to take a walk in this green area, looking at sculptures and just get away from the busy streets. The entrance is impressing, but then we came into the park. Lots of young men (refugees?) occupying benches and begging for money. The number of these men made us feel unsecure and we just rushed through to find nearest exit.

Visited the park enroute to Bologna historical city centre, the park is somewhat run down with the fountain and pond drained and sculptures fenced off. It's become a bit of a resting place for the homeless and unemployed, nobody bothered us but it didn't have a very nice feel, how sad for what was a beautiful park.

It seemed to me like this park used to be very nice in the past but has been kind of “let go” in recent times. I passed through it on my way to the train/bus station at the end of my trip and I actually felt uneasy while walking through, which is a feeling I rarely get while traveling. There are a good number of people hanging around on the benches with seemingly nothing to do (and they congregate in larger numbers at night), which is usually a warning sign in my book. Plus there’s a large statue/fountain at the train station entrance of the park that has been partially broken, which is another red flag in my book.

this could be an amazing chill out place if the local Council gave it a bit more attention and start by clearing away the drunks and users

After seeing so many rather sparse public parks and gardens all round the Emilia Romagna region, I hoped for something better from this big area just off the major shopping street, the Via Dell’Independenza. But this was a real disappointment, with not much more than a few trees, very little grass, graffiti on the buildings and an uneasy atmosphere. The nearby Saturday flea market had been allowed to spread into the park area, making it even less attractive than it was already. Not somewhere I’d recommend to visitors to Bologna.

Since we had a week in the area we chose to visit this park one beautiful day. We were encouraged by the impressive entrances to it but disappointed afterward. It is not especially well kept and graffiti abounds. It does offer a leafy refuge from the hot sun but, for that, you must put up with bands of young immigrants lounging around in groups smoking weed. There is no interesting flora or fauna either. A very missable "attraction".

This park is located next to the major shopping street, Via dell'Indipendenza. It has been open to the public since 1664.
The current plan is to be dated back to the early 1800s when Napoleon ordered the architect Marinetti to redesign the park in the French style.
The monumental stairway and a circular basin in the middle of the garden were built in 1896.
You can find centuries-old plane trees from the Napoleon period.
One day before our visit, there were thunderstorms in Bologna. So the park was not in its cleanest condition.

This park was a real disappointment, there were leaves and twigs covering the floor, like you get in the UK after a bad storm, but this was late-June. Clearly no one sweeps the pathways. It could be so beautiful if it was looked after.
