    Well organized
Trains, lotsa trains. Fast trains. Slow trains. Regional trains. Buses are across the street at the autozone. Lotsa of people and energy. Helpful staff. Buy a ticket and go. Well organized but kinda intimidating. I trained to San Marino ( Rimini), trained to Ferrari museum and bused to Lamborghini museum. It’s a great way to travel

    Small Station for Many Trains
Larger City train station with many trains coming and going each day. South side of the station is the traditional Stazione/main station and the North side is the termination point for the Marconi Express to the airport. The main station is not very large for as big of a city as Bologna is. A couple of snack bars, a news stand, and a Burger kind. Bus station biglietteria it to the left as you are facing the main station. Station has a typical layout with a large Arrivals/Departure board in the main lobby, a ticket window and a number of automated ticket kiosks. The main assistance point is in the center of the lobby. Binari are reached via the underground hallway that also connects both side of the station. Make sure to check out the memorial just outside the station to the people who lost their lives during the terrorist bombing on 2 August 1980.

The fifth railway station of Italy
For number of trains and number of travelers, this is the fifth railway station of Italy, it is in a strategic position for connection nord-south and west-east directions. It was built in 1858 when Italy was not a unique state as it’s now. Bologna was on the border between the Papal state and the Austrian-Hungary state. This railway station is unfortunately famous for the terrorist attack made the 2 August 1980 where 85 people died

Convenient for visits to Bologna by rail
We arrived and departed from Bologna Central during a recent stay in the city, finding it convenient for travel to/from Bologna. It is a functional rail station connected to the city centre by bus, taxi or just walk 10-15 minutes to wherever you need to go. Rail tickets can be booked online, through mobile app or at the self-use ticket machines at the station. Departures and arrivals are clearly listed just upon entering the station, signage to the various platform is easy to follow. There are a few casual eateries, coffee and food shops at the station as well as across the street at the shopping arcade as well.

    The fifth Italian railway station.
Bologna Station is the fifth Italian railway station in terms of traffic after Roman Termini, Milano Centrale, Turin's Porta Nuova and Florence's Santa Maria Novella. With a mind-blowing 700 trains per day! Traveling through northern Italy, a transfer here is almost inevitable. The station is large and convenient. There are many places where you can eat. Convenient navigation system. And only one clock at the station shows the same time at 10:25. They stopped on August 2, 1980, when the most terrible terrorist attack in the history of Italy, staged by neo-fascists, took place at the station.

We traveled to Parma from this station, first time in Italy, so it was bit confusing at first but things became clear very quickly.
You can buy your tickets from machines to your destination
The ticket machine can be changed to English.
To find you train platform, look
on information board at the timings and you will see your train
number matching your train number. You must also Validated
your tickets before board your train, the validation machines are
everywhere and they look like small box like machine.

My wife and I needed antigen tests in May 2022 in Bologna for cruise ship boarding in Ravenna two days later. Our hotel was across the street from the train station so we went to the Farmacia della Stazione there. Even though a sign indicated appointments are required, the senior pharmacist took us immediately. The senior pharmacist and his colleagues were professional, kind, and friendly. After our negative tests were completed they were receptive to chatting with us about our itinerary and even helped us with finding a limousine service for our ride to Ravenna. They are clearly “America Friendly” and very nice people otherwise. HIghly recommend this pharmacy for any needs one might have in Bologna.

The management of the station is simply disgraceful. All public places close at 10pm. The waiting room closes at 11pm (but it is possible to be rejected even at 10pm). Taking into account that there are normally around ten trains between 11pm and midnight (not counting delays) and even others after midnight (the station is perhaps the main railway hub in Italy) it is simply absurd that someone waiting for one of these (e.g. for a change) must be forced to wait in the hall (mysteriously with all the doors always open) or in the underpass to protect themselves from the cold (terrible situation in winter). What would it cost to leave the waiting room open and allow entry only to passengers with tickets? (If you really want to avoid it becoming a dormitory for the homeless). Disgusting!

I have used Bologna train station countless times over the years, everything is well organised and clearly signposted both in Italian and in English.

What I didn't know is that they have built an entirely new underground floor with platforms for high-speed trains (I had the high-speed train to Rome).

This part is connected by lifts and escalators to the rest of the station and the transfer takes a matter or minutes, if not seconds! Excellent set-up.

Horrible station from an organizational point of view during night time. Unseemly!!! We stopped both on the way out and on the way back as an exchange station. On the outward journey we remained at the station for around 90 minutes at night time (3.28am), even in the presence of minors, to wait for the train, and then went to Imola (train departure scheduled for 5am) for the Formula 1 Grand Prix. 1. It is scandalous that a citizen who pays the ticket should not use services. When we arrived at the station we found the waiting room and bathrooms closed (they said they reopened at 6am) and so since there weren't even any benches inside we sat down on some steps, the alternative was to stand outside in the cold. Many people bivouacked and slept in the underpasses anyway, so I don't think the closure of some services was due to the "bivouac" or anything else and not knowing the reason I can point out, having still paid for some services, including waiting for the train, that the room it could remain open and only allow travelers with travel documents to enter inside and the same goes for the bathrooms.

Bologna is a transit city for many tourists. It's a shame there are so few crates. All automated and then as soon as something happens it all goes into TILT. They try to replace the man in every way, but as soon as there is a strike, delay a train you have to queue for 1 hour to ask for information. Not to mention the fact that the cards x the line are literally in front of the entrance to the checkouts, so if there is a line, no one will let you pass. They told me that I can ask for a refund online, only every time an error appears and nothing can be done. PITIFUL ORGANIZATION.

We were on a rail holiday so use lots of train stations and this was easily our least favourite.

It is absolutely huge and we found it not to be user-friendly.

Firstly, the platform numbering seems to be completely random with numbers either missed or duplicated. This makes it difficult to make sure you were on the right train and you could end up heading in exactly the wrong direction!

The information is not nearly as good as we found in other countries and the added to the confusion. Add inthe fact that the toilets weren’t working, you have to walk miles to get anywhere and the food concessions are limited and poor makes it not a great place. Transit only from now on!

Very busy station with a lot of train traffic. Large number of ticket machines in addition to the ticket offices with numerically managed queues. There are also many staff who inform you or who come to you if they see you hesitating. The truth is that it is very well managed with all the numbers and destinations. Even with sudden platform changes due to network improvement works we had no problems. What a difference in traffic, trains, and their speed if we compare it with our network kk.
